Project Manager - Electric Distribution

Project Manager - Electric Distribution

EN Engineering LLC

Scranton, PA โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 28 days ago

Job description

We specialize in planning and upgrading electric distribution systems, leveraging decades of experience with power producers, utilities, commercial and industrial facilities, and municipalities. Our expertise spans distribution planning analysis tools, feeder design, voltage control, and grid modernization programs. Our engineering teams coordinate capacity expansion and delivery projects to enhance system reliability, including downtown networks, power lines, and underground and overhead planning. We also provide comprehensive inspections and permitting after commissioning. Our ENTRUST geospatial and data analytics support, combined with advanced automation tools, ensures precise reporting and documentation across distribution routes.

As a Project Manager, youโ€™ll lead electric distribution design and engineering programs supporting our clients' distribution systems in the Mid-Atlantic region. This is a programโ€‘based role, not a oneโ€‘off project positionโ€”youโ€™ll oversee a steady pipeline of distribution work that keeps the electric grid reliable, modern, and ready for future demand.

Youโ€™ll partner closely with client stakeholders, internal engineering and design teams, and external agencies to deliver highโ€‘quality workโ€”on time, on budget, and in line with client and program standards.

This role blends project delivery, client partnership, and team leadership. Here's what you'll do:

  • Lead a portfolio of electric distribution design projects and programs, including overhead and underground work, system upgrades, and modernization efforts
  • Own scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk across multiple concurrent projects
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client stakeholders, building trusted relationships through clear communication and consistent delivery
  • Coordinate work across designers, engineers, and technical leads, ensuring teams have clear priorities and direction
  • Oversee project financials, including forecasting, fee tracking, and change management
  • Ensure work complies with industry standards, permitting requirements, and regulatory expectations
  • Support permitting and thirdโ€‘party coordination efforts (municipalities, DOTs, jointโ€‘use utilities) as needed
  • Review deliverables for quality and constructability after submittal
  • Provide construction support and help resolve designโ€‘related issues during build
  • Mentor technical leads, help shape program strategy, and support growth

Your work may span several ongoing initiatives, such as:

  • Highโ€‘volume distribution design programs (repeatable work with defined standards and workflows)
  • Voltage Optimization (VO) initiatives focused on system performance and efficiency
  • Distribution Automation (DA) projects, including device upgrades and grid modernization
  • Municipalityโ€‘ and DOTโ€‘driven relocations tied to roadway and infrastructure improvements
  • Distributed Energy Resources (DER) including solar (PV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), backup generators, EV chargers, etc.

These programs are longโ€‘term, fastโ€‘moving, and highly collaborativeโ€”ideal for PMs who enjoy structure, variety, and visible impact.

Youโ€™ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy managing multiple projects at once in a program environment
  • Are comfortable balancing client expectations, internal delivery, and financial performance
  • Like working closely with technical teams without needing to be the technical designer yourself
  • Value clear processes, strong standards, and continuous improvement
  • Want to build longโ€‘term client relationships rather than jumping from project to project

Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need:

  • Project management experience supporting electric distribution or utility infrastructure programs, or other engineering/construction related spaces
  • Experience managing scope, schedule, and budget in a consulting or utilityโ€‘facing environment
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with utility clients
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, potentially including leadership of other PMs.
  • Ability to lead crossโ€‘functional teams and keep work moving in a deadlineโ€‘driven environment
  • Proficiency in forecasting and financial management, especially in a Fixed Fee and Unitized platform.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and technical innovations.

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience working with large investor-owned electric utilities (IOU)
  • Familiarity with distribution design workflows, permitting, and construction support
  • Experience managing programโ€‘based or unitized work
  • PMP or similar certification
  • Experience with various PM platforms such as MS Project, PE6, Oracle, Maximo, Salesforce
