REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

DEPARTMENT: Operations

TYPE: Full time, Exempt

The Project Executive functions as a senior leader in operations, accountable for overseeing and enhancing the performance of an assigned portfolio that includes offices, divisions, markets, projects, personnel, and clients. This role involves offering developmental support to personnel, fostering business development and growth, and managing financial and risk performance metrics within the portfolio. The Project Executive will report directly to the Director of Operations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Personnel, Project and Client Leadership

  • Establish the leadership culture by exemplifying and reinforcing the company's core values of Integrity, Community, Relationships, and Innovation.
  • Provides oversight, establishes priorities, and offers strategic guidance for personnel and projects, including direct intervention when necessary.
  • Own succession planning and bench strength of team members assigned, including conducting regular portfolio-level talent reviews, identifying flight risks and high-potential staff early.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations regarding staffing, promotions, and compensation determinations.
  • Acts as the principal executive and escalation point for personnel, project, or client issues, engaging personally as necessary.
  • Engage in preconstruction planning and significant buyout decisions, ensuring alignment with client expectations and risk tolerance.
  • Establish benchmarks for quality, safety, and project controls, ensuring accountability for all stakeholders regarding these standards.
  • Serve as the executive sponsor for joint venture (JV) projects, maintaining the relationship with JV partner leadership and ensuring the partnership functions seamlessly at the executive level.
  • Responsible for initial review and approval of major contract terms, JV agreements, and partnership structures in coordination with executive leadership and legal counselto ensure compliance with acceptable guidelines.
  • Acts as the primary executive for clients.


Business Development

  • Foster repeat business, referrals, and new opportunities.
  • Representthe company at client and industry events.
  • Assist in proposal development and interview efforts.
  • Cultivate and expand relationships with joint venture (JV) partner firms, identifying future teaming opportunities.
  • Participate in go/no-go evaluations and strategic positioning discussions.


Financial and Risk Oversight

  • Own P&L performance for the assigned division, market, or portfolio.
  • Review and engage in the approval process for significant financial decisions, forecasts, and risk positionsacross the designated portfolio.
  • Assist in resolving significant claims or disputes as they occur.
  • Ensure JV governance, profit-sharing, and reporting obligations are met across all joint venture projects in the portfolio.
  • Establish risk tolerance levels and escalation thresholds for the portfolio and ensure that personnel operate within these established parameters.

GENERAL BACKGROUND AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, plus 15+ years of progressive construction leadership experience, including 5+ years directly managing people; OR
  • 18+ years of equivalent, extensive construction leadership experience without a degree, supported by a strong demonstrated track record.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Possess robust people and project management fundamentals, with the capability to assume direct leadership of complex projects when required.
  • Demonstrated history of leading and developing teams.
  • Extensive expertise in financial, contractual, and risk management.
  • Executive presence and business development capabilities.
  • Exercises sound judgment in discerning when to provide remote guidance and when to engage directly in a particular project.

Safety Requirement

  • Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Willingness to comply with company and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Must be capable of wearing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and other specialized equipment as required by the job.
  • Current certifications for First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain them.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

TheProject Executive predominantly carries out their responsibilities within an office setting, which may be located either onsite or offsite. The employee must have the ability to meet the following physical demands, among others:

  • Sit for prolonged durations and utilize a computer, phone, and other office equipment.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift office materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Remain standing or walking for prolonged durations and maneuver through structures that are only partially constructed.
  • During site visits, climb ladders and scaffolding, whether permanent or temporary stairways, and walk across uneven terrain in areas under construction.
  • Review documents and construction drawings, and communicate in person, by phone, or virtually.
  • Specialty project locations, including industrial facilities, healthcare environments, or restricted sites, may entail additional safety protocols or environmental considerations.
