Machinery Diagnostics Field Engineer / Rotating Equipment Field Engineer

As a Machinery Diagnostics Field Engineer, you will be providing customers complete service solutions to address their critical rotating machinery assets, protection, and monitoring system. This will include evaluating machinery condition based on rotor dynamic analysis.

As a Machinery Diagnostics Field Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing machinery problems based upon vibration data, operational data, and customer communications.

  • Travel to customer sites to provide supporting service.

  • Completing timely reports that identify findings and provide recommendations to the customer.

  • Building relationships with customers to provide a high-level of service delivery, becoming their trusted advisor for their rotating equipment health.

  • Calculating and overseeing placement of balance weights.

  • Applying Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) standards and procedures.

Fuel your passion:

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical Engineering a plus)

  • Have minimum 2 years of industry experience with large rotating equipment such as turbine generators (steam, heavy-duty gas, aeroderivative, and/or hydro), compressors, axial or centrifugal fans, or similar equipment.

  • Be available for extensive travel (up to 70%) and significant over-time (paid).

  • Possess a valid driver's license and passport (or able to obtain a passport).

  • Be eligible to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential).

  • Be eligible to travel overseas and/or work on offshore platforms on occasion.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of reliability engineering, turbine engineering and systems, refinery mechanical engineering, and/or rotating equipment engineering.

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Mechanical vibration analysis

    • Rotating machinery vibration diagnostics

    • Rotordynamic analysis

    • Predictive Maintenance (PdM) data acquisition and evaluation

    • Machinery balancing and precision alignment

  • ISO-certified Vibration Analyst preferred.

  • Proven mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities, with a hands-on approach and the ability to perform effectively in demanding and high-pressure environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Proficiency in the use of basic electrical testing instruments, including voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and similar diagnostic tools.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply information from mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.

  • Working knowledge of rotating machinery operation, control systems, and associated equipment.

  • Understanding of machinery condition monitoring, protection, and asset management systems.

  • Knowledge of Bently Nevada products and Cordant services is highly desirable.

  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with computer networking concepts and systems.

The annual pay scale for this position is between $79,490.00 - $170,670.00.

Candidates for this role (office-based/ hybrid/ remote) must be located in or near the locations displayed above. The pay range/scale displayed above represents Baker Hughes' good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum for this position at the time of this posting and applies to the possible locations for this position. Baker Hughes will issue a non-bias competitive offer; the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hires, full-time salaries in some U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. Where an applicant will ultimately fall within the pay range/scale depends on a variety of factors, including, for example, geographic work location, skillset, qualifications, internal pay alignment, level of experience, and demonstrated performance over time. Please keep in mind that the range stated above is the full base salary range for the role and does not include other forms of compensation. Your recruiter can share more about the pay range for this position during the hiring process.

You will be eligible to participate in Company-sponsored benefit programs, including health & welfare programs and the Thrift Plan (401k). You will have a choice of coverage options that best suit your needs. Coverage options and contribution amounts are related to your benefit elections, base salary level, and specific requirements of each of these plans.

You will be eligible to participate in the Baker Hughes Short-term incentive plan applicable for the above position. The actual payout for your short-term incentive award will be based on company and individual performance and is contingent upon Baker Hughes achieving pre-determined financial results.
