Job description

POSITION: Project Engineer, Conversions

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.

STATUS: Salary Exempt

Job Summary:

The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution of commercial projects. This position works with a variety of internal and external teams to lead engineering and technical project management activities relating to gas turbine system conversions, modifications, and upgrades.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The essential functions of the job include the following:

  • Act as a technical focal point for GT Conversions Projects, working as a partner with the Project Management Office and interfacing with other teams in the organization including Supply Chain, Combustion Product Engineering, and Field Services.
  • Lead the auxiliary system design effort as required by the project, develop documentation per PSM Process OP3031, prepare for and conduct installation readiness reviews and release standard reference documentation for site installations.
  • Work closely with Project Management to agree on program milestones and project execution dates, maintaining clear alignment with them and reporting on project performance.
  • Generate schedules, identify critical path activities, and align resources to ensure on time delivery of designs, manufactured parts, procurement of components and contractors, and on-site execution.
  • Serve as a focal point for suppliers and contractors to ensure consistency and continuity with project execution and engineering efforts.
  • Work with the customer by providing technical and project insights and updates.
  • Setup and coordinate design and risk reviews per engineering design procedures, highlighting top project risks, assisting in the development of mitigation strategies and addressing all action items.
  • Support sales and tendering with project cost estimates and provide direction for site walkdown support during the bid phase.
  • Support on site installations by providing field advisory services, ensuring contractors execute their scopes per plan.
  • Report project status and milestones to upper management.
  • Refine existing engineering procedures or develop new ones for continuous efficiency & quality improvement as well as lower execution cost.
  • Create, lead and/or deliver presentations to internal and external clients.
  • Up to 20% travel required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Training

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or another relevant field
  • Equivalent industry experience will also be considered
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSMโ€™s EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

  • 10+ years of applicable experience in the GT industry, with 5+ years of experience related to Gas Turbine product development and specifications is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of fluid systems and components such as control valves, piping, heat transfer equipment and instrumentation a plus.
  • Experience with electrical systems and controls a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with technical teams, customers, suppliers, and on-site contractors at a project level.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (CREO or equivalent) desired.
  • Strong skills with MS Office programs.
  • Strong decision making and organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills, including ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Proven track record of EHS leadership by example.
