Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Juno Beach, FL that is seeking an Energy Storage Project Engineer.
Summary:
The Utility Scale Energy Storage team seeks a Project Engineer with a passion for renewable energy and experience in energy storage. Responsibilities include planning, designing, and managing energy storage projects, selecting equipment, coordinating engineering resources, supporting logistics, and consulting across teams. This role requires technical expertise, strong project management skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail. You will analyze data, conduct technical due diligence, propose storage solutions, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maximize battery energy storage system performance.
Responsibilities:
* Support design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects
* Recognize inconsistencies in engineering drawings, take corrective action, and strive for better design quality and efficiency
* Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and suggest future solutions.
Prepare technical scopes of work for contracts
* Support projects from inception to completion by working closely with project managers.
Influence project teams on engineering tasks
* Stay updated on project progress and technical issues
* Manage project milestones and recognize risks
* Collaborate with suppliers to integrate major equipment
* Work with diverse teams to solve problems, improve opportunities, and integrate systems and controls
* Handle other assigned duties as needed
* Travel 25% of the time for project specific duties
REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program
* 5+ years of proven engineering experience
* Understand specifications for major equipment purchasing, ensure clear communication, and propose solutions
* Understand permitting requirements, propose solutions to legal challenges, and recommend site design improvements
* Experience with design and/or operation of large-scale power generation or processing plants involving adherence to regulatory requirements while maximizing the performance and reliability of technically complex systems
* Hands-on experience or strong knowledge of methods, including foundations, trenching, electrical terminations and testing, and best safety practices
* Strong knowledge of technologies in energy storage including varying battery chemistries, power conversion units and DC-DC converters
* Lithium-ion battery storage safety: Familiarity with UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections
* Familiarity with interconnection studies and GIA material modification adjustment (MMA) processes, particularly in WECC and CAISO
* Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively conveying technical and non-technical concepts to diverse audiences
SME in substation or utility scale energy storage design and/or project management, with established expertise in one or more of the following areas:
* Power electronics
* Battery storage system design
* Substation design
* Generation tie design
* Data Centers
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
