About Us

Join a talented team of engineering professionals at Vogt Power International Inc. Vogt is based in Louisville, KY and specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of equipment and solutions to the power generation industry. We are an industry leader in heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with both domestic and international customers.

Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for project engineering coordination for the department including, but not limited to activities related to project development, execution, review and approval of requisitions and review bought out equipment technical evaluations. This position has responsibility and accountability for ensuring engineering schedules, providing engineering man-hour forecasts and engineering budgets on assigned projects. This position is the technical manager of the project and communicates technical issues with the Project Manager and the Customer. This position will involve customer visits and other business-related activities such as support for project kick off meetings and site walk downs as necessary for projects.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Project Technical Leader

  • Manages the technical aspect of the assigned projects during contract execution
  • Provides on-site support to vendors, and manufacturing when necessary to ensure project success
  • Understand and interpret specification requirements to ensure that they are met during project execution.

Customer Liaison

  • Lead technical contact for the customer on assigned projects. All technical correspondence with the customer will flow through and be reviewed by the PE
  • Formulate and present all RFI’s to the customer for quick resolution to allow the project team to meet schedule requirements
  • Advise customer on impacts of change requests

Scheduling, Forecasting and Budget Analysis

  • Maintains a project’s engineering schedule for all assigned projects by coordinating tasks with Discipline Managers and project team personnel
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining project man-hour forecasts
  • Report out to upper management on schedule progress and provide recovery plans for areas where the schedule is behind.

Document Control

  • Manage the Document Control Automation Program (DCAP) for the project.
  • Process all incoming vendor and customer documents to ensure that they are reviewed by the proper team members.
  • Process all outgoing document submittals to the vendors or customers to ensure that necessary changes are communicated properly and in a timely manor
  • Set up and manage the Master Document List (MDL) of customer submittals to ensure that all documents are submitted on time as required by the project specification/contract

Administrative

  • Development and coordination of project O&M manual as required.
  • Conducts, participates in and maintains meeting minutes for team meetings, meetings with support personnel, and meetings with the customer.
  • Takes an active role when working with other PEs to make improvements in cost, quality or efficiency of the department by revising procedures, work instructions or templates

Sales/Innovation

  • Represents the Engineering Department internally and externally as directed, including traveling when needed.
  • Facilitates required design improvements/innovation projects based on customer inputs
  • Review sales proposals, RFQ’s, proposal schedules and technical reports.

Requirements

  • B.S. in mechanical, chemical, or metallurgical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related industry experience or minimum two (2) years of experience in each of the following:

-contract-based project execution

-project management directly leading a technical team

-meeting KPIs pertaining to schedules and budgets

-experience working with external customers and change management, change orders

-experience negotiating with suppliers including contract management, legal terms and conditions and change management

  • Must be available to lead or participate in meetings that occur internationally outside of typical office hours
  • Demonstrated knowledge of company standards and applications.
  • Knowledge of various codes (ASME, NBIC, B31.1, etc.) desirable, including product application.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of HRSG or boiler operations, design philosophy, principles, and details of application.
  • Must have valid passport and be able to travel when required.
  • Must be resourceful, organized, and able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines, manage multiple project simultaneously and respond quickly to requests.

The base pay range for this Project Engineer role is $108,000 - $140,000 annually.
