Construction Materials Project Manager

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Construction Materials Project Engineer Project Manager to join our Construction Services team in Augusta, Georgia. Join us at S&ME!

As a Construction Materials Project Engineer / Project Manager, you will manage projects from initial planning through final completion, ensuring each phase meets quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. In this role, you'll influence project success by directing technical work, guiding and supporting field and engineering team members, and developing strong relationships with clients and contractors. Your efforts help ensure construction quality, structural integrity, and the long-term performance of the built environment. By combining project leadership, field coordination, technical knowledge, and client development, you will contribute to strong project outcomes while helping strengthen the organization's growth and industry reputation.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Project Management & Delivery: Lead CMT and Special Inspection projects from start to finish, overseeing budgets, schedules, staffing, and technical direction to ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and applicable IBC standards.
  • Client & Contractor Coordination: Maintain regular communication with clients and contractors through meetings and site visits to discuss expectations, monitor project status, and foster strong working relationships throughout the project.
  • Technical Guidance & Team Development: Supervise field inspections, ensure detailed documentation of site activities, and provide guidance to technicians and engineers to support accurate testing, reliable reporting, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Documentation, Proposals & Quality Assurance: Direct the preparation of reports, proposals, technical scopes, and cost estimates while ensuring deliverables are accurate, complete, and submitted on schedule.
  • Client Growth & Industry Engagement: Build and strengthen client partnerships, stay active in professional organizations (such as ASCE, AGC, and ACEC), and contribute to business development initiatives that expand local market opportunities and revenue.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or a similar Engineering field
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in construction materials testing and inspection
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Current ICC, ACI, and DOT certifications are a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable ACI, ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards and procedures, and IBC Special Inspections.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including attention to detail. You should be able to develop and facilitate accurate technical materials.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially long periods
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
