Job Description:
Are you ready to take your engineering skills to the next level and work on challenging transportation projects that make a meaningful impact on the community? Parsons is seeking an Engineer I / Engineer II Traffic Engineer / Modeler with strong VISSIM modeling capabilities to join our Transportation Team and support road and highway projects that help shape the urban transportation network.
Parsons' extensive experience in this field, combined with your engineering knowledge, will help propel your career forward with opportunities for training, development, advancement, and exposure to marquee transportation projects. We need versatile, enthusiastic engineers who thrive in a flexible, collaborative environment and bring strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Candidates will be involved in traffic engineering and transportation planning assignments, including traffic operations analyses, microsimulation modeling, model calibration/validation support, traffic studies, and preparation of technical documents. This position is based in the New York City office and is expected to be a hybrid position. Occasional field work for projects near and within New York is expected.
What You'll be Doing
  • Performs a variety of traffic engineering and traffic modeling duties.
  • Develops and supports the creation of traffic engineering products that meet client quality requirements.
  • Prepares or supports traffic operations analyses, traffic simulation/microsimulation models, technical reports, calculations, exhibits, and other engineering deliverables.
  • For Engineer I, completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, computations, estimates, surveys, designs, and other materials suitable for engineering or construction purposes, utilizing CAE/CAD as applicable.
  • For Engineer II, independently develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering products, including defining problems, establishing work scope, supporting budgets and schedules, planning work, providing technical direction, and reporting work status.
  • Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • Provides support for other engineering activities as required and performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Five or more years of related work experience conducting traffic engineering and/or transportation planning work.
  • Strong proficiency in VISSIM modeling and traffic engineering analyses.
  • Ability to independently develop engineering products and provide technical direction on traffic modeling and analysis assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to excel in a team environment and support coordination with multidisciplinary project teams.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring
  • A strong background in traffic planning, engineering, and traffic modeling is preferred.
  • Experience with VBA or Python is a plus.
  • Experience with other traffic microsimulation or planning tools such as AIMSUN, VISUM, TransCAD, SimTraffic, or Synchro is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of traffic simulation and capacity analysis software such as Highway Capacity Software (HCS) and Synchro is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate for the Engineer I position is preferred. For the Engineer II position, a PE license is desired.
  • Master's degree with an emphasis in transportation and traffic engineering is a plus.

Salary Range: $63,600.00 - $111,300.00
