Job description

Benchmark Contracting, DBA Cobblestone Construction, is a General Contracting company with more than 20 years of experience building state, federal, and private projects. With a reputation for honesty, integrity, and safety at the highest standards, we are searching for a Project Engineer who brings those same ideals to every workday.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide project managers and superintendents with administrative resources as directed
  • Assist the project managers in creating and distributing project schedule baseline and updates as well as short-term 3 weeks look ahead schedules
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of subcontract agreements and proposals/change order checklist
  • Create, manage, and track all documents (i.e., RFI, COR, RFP, CO, submittals, drawings, and correspondence) between offices, from field to the architect and to the project manager
  • Coordinate, monitor, follow up and review for accuracy all contract requirements (i.e., insurance certificates, bonds, executed subcontract agreements, change orders, request for proposals, and the like.)
  • Maintain control, compile, organize, analyze and update project-related documentation and responsible party (i.e., submittals, request for information, change orders)
  • Coordinates and maintains inspection documentation for the project, especially risk issues and change orders that could impact cost and/or time
  • Comprehensively understand plans, project drawings, specifications, subcontract agreements and execution of these documents (i.e., general construction activity flow)
  • Prepare all certified payroll reports. Task will include accumulation of subcontractor reports and ensuring they coincide with daily reports. Each report will be reviewed for accuracy, presented to project manager for approval, and then submitted to owners
  • Attend owner meetings on Project Manager’s behalf as requested and prepare minutes
  • Maintain high level of customer service and interaction with sub-contractors
  • Comprehensively understand appropriate building codes or regulations
  • Troubleshoot complex issues related to change orders and pay applications
  • Mentor PA’s (I and II) on core responsibilities and work closely on assigned projects
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management OR any engineering-related discipline is required and 5 years of experience as field construction project engineer
  • The ideal candidate should be a fast learner that is willing to take it upon his or herself to create an immediate impact within the company is expected
  • Broad understanding of construction field work, especially tenant improvements and renovations
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with construction contracts, drawings, federal, state, county, and city regulations.
  • Knowledgeable in all Microsoft Applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledgeable in Procore and Primavera P6 or ability to use specialized construction software for collaboration is a plus
  • Ability to maintain contract files and documents with great detail
  • Experience with mechanics liens, stop notices, legal issues related to construction contracting
  • Leadership skill, time management and analytical skills
  • Must have effective communication skills
  • Self-starter with tact, judgment, and a highly developed sense of responsibility
