Job description

We are an established and respected General Contracting Company seeking an experienced Project Engineer to fill a key role out of Los Lunas, New Mexico. Position Summary

The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of construction projects by assisting the Project Manager with project startup, execution, closeout, and warranty activities. This role is responsible for maintaining and organizing project documentation, managing RFIs and submittals, coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders, tracking schedules and procurement activities, and supporting budget and change management processes. The Project Engineer helps ensure compliance with project requirements, facilitates communication between field and office teams, coordinates inspections and permits, documents project progress, and assists with quality control, safety, punchโ€‘list management, and closeout deliverables. Through proactive coordination and attention to detail, the Project Engineer helps keep projects organized, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Manager in all phases of project delivery, including startup, execution, closeout, and warranty activities.
  • Maintain and organize project documentation, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, permits, meeting minutes, change documentation, and project records.
  • Review project documents for accuracy, completeness, coordination issues, and potential conflicts.
  • Manage RFIs and submittals, ensuring timely preparation, tracking, routing, approvals, and distribution.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to support procurement, compliance requirements, material deliveries, lead times, and project execution.
  • Assist with subcontract and purchase order administration, budget tracking, cost documentation, invoice review, and change management activities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project schedules, procurement logs, milestone tracking, and shortโ€‘term planning efforts.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential schedule or cost impacts, and communicate concerns to project leadership.
  • Participate in owner, architect, subcontractor, and internal project meetings, documenting discussions, action items, and project updates.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, permits, and regulatory requirements while supporting projects in occupied environments with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Assist with quality control, safety documentation, punchโ€‘list management, corrective actions, and project closeout requirements, including warranties, asโ€‘built drawings, operation manuals, and final acceptance documentation.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of Project Engineer experience in commercial construction.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, procurement, and change management.
  • Experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, and subcontract administration.
  • Proficiency in ACC, Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other construction management software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problemโ€‘solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
