What is a Project Echo?

A Project ECHO job typically involves coordinating, managing, or supporting ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) programs, which are designed to expand access to specialized knowledge through telementoring. Responsibilities can include curriculum development, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and technology support. These positions are commonly found in healthcare organizations, universities, and nonprofits.

What does a Project Echo do?

In a Project Echo role, your primary responsibilities generally include organizing and facilitating virtual sessions that connect subject matter experts with community-based providers, planning curriculum content, and tracking program outcomes. You may spend your day coordinating schedules, preparing materials, handling technical aspects of web-based meetings, and supporting participant engagement. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—such as clinicians, data analysts, and administrative staff—is common, as is liaising with external stakeholders. The role offers significant opportunities for developing leadership skills and expanding professional networks, especially for those interested in improving care delivery and education in underserved communities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a Project Echo position?

To excel in a Project Echo role, you typically need strong project management abilities, familiarity with healthcare systems, and experience in tele-mentoring or virtual education, often requiring a relevant degree such as in public health or healthcare administration. Familiarity with platforms such as Zoom, Salesforce, and learning management systems, as well as certifications like PMP or relevant clinical backgrounds, are commonly beneficial. Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills help professionals coordinate between specialists and frontline providers while fostering collaborative learning environments. These skills ensure effective knowledge sharing, seamless project execution, and optimal outcomes within distributed healthcare or educational networks.
