DEPARTMENT: Advanced Programs

REPORTS TO: Chief Engineer, Advanced Programs

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs mechanical design, engineering analysis, and technical task management in support of ammunition, fuzing, and related defense product development programs. Responsible for design from concept through production release, coordination with vendors and cross-functional teams, and hands-on support of prototype fabrication, integration, and testing activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops mechanical designs for components and assemblies from requirements through detailed design, release, and production support

2. Performs engineering analyses and evaluations to assess structural integrity, mechanical performance, design feasibility, and compliance with technical requirements

3. Creates and maintains 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and associated engineering documentation in accordance with applicable standards

4. Develops and maintains technical data packages to support prototype builds, testing, qualification, and production release

5. Supports execution of U.S. Government-funded development programs and internal research and development efforts across ammunition, fuzing, and related defense product lines

6. Coordinates with external vendors performing advanced analytical and modeling efforts in support of product development

7. Reviews and evaluates vendor-generated analysis results, assumptions, methodologies, and conclusions for technical adequacy and applicability to the design

8. Works with internal and external stakeholders to define analysis inputs, technical requirements, objectives, and deliverables in support of development programs

9. Uses analysis results, engineering judgment, and test data to support design decisions, trade studies, and product optimization

10. Supports correlation of analytical predictions with development and qualification test results

11. Supports design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer briefings

12. Collaborates with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure designs meet producibility, cost, performance, and reliability objectives

13. Supports prototype fabrication, assembly, integration, and test activities in a hands-on environment

14. Authors and reviews test plans, procedures, reports for development, and engineering specifications

15. Supports troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations for development and production hardware

16. Conducts trade studies and technical evaluations to support design decisions, configuration improvements, and product maturation

17. Manages assigned tasks in alignment with technical, schedule, and cost objectives

18. Participates in laboratory, environmental, and ballistic testing activities as required

19. Regular attendance is required.

20. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

Skills and Attributes:

· Strong applied foundation in mechanical engineering, including mechanical design, structural analysis, product development, and engineering evaluation of components and assemblies

· Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing development; SolidWorks preferred

· Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards

· Experience with engineering analysis methods and tools used to assess structural response, mechanical performance, and design adequacy; structural FEA preferred

· Ability to interpret engineering requirements, drawings, specifications, and technical data packages

· Ability to review and critically evaluate vendor-performed analytical results related to structural response, terminal effects, flight performance, and design feasibility

· Ability to define technical requirements and communicate analysis objectives, assumptions, and results across multidisciplinary teams

· Ability to analyze test data, identify performance issues, and support resolution of technical problems

· Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information across multidisciplinary teams

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other external stakeholders

· Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks in a dynamic environment

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint

· Ability to work under limited supervision while maintaining responsibility for assigned technical work

Requirements:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

POSITION TYPE:

This is a Salary Exempt full-time position.

TRAVEL:

Approximately 25%, including vendor facilities, government sites, and test ranges

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.

5–10 years of experience in mechanical design, product engineering, or project engineering. Experience supporting product development programs within the defense industry is preferred. Candidate should possess a strong applied foundation in mechanical engineering, including design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems.

Citizenship:
U.S. Citizenship required. This position may require a U.S. Security Clearance.
