Job Summary:
The Fitness Director oversees all day-to-day operations of the facility, including programming, marketing, staff development, sales, and member services. This individual is responsible for building a high-performance team, ensuring operational excellence, maintaining budgetary discipline, and delivering an exceptional experience for all members and guests.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Facility Management
  • Develop and maintain a standard operations manual, policies, and procedures using Arch Amenities Group templates.
  • Submit accurate monthly and yearly reports summarizing key metrics, operations, and recommendations.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed and equipment is in optimal working order.
  • Maintain monthly inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor facility access to ensure safety and security for members and guests.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and state licensing regulations.
  • Prepare and submit incident/accident reports as needed.
  • Learn all aspects of the spa, aqua, services and fitness operations and assist with needs and challenges as they arise.

Staff Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all facility staff including fitness professionals and support personnel.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and ongoing training workshops.
  • Implement and oversee the Manager on Duty (MOD) schedule to ensure consistent supervisory coverage.
  • Support employee development through performance coaching, annual reviews, and disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Ensure all staff maintain current certifications (CPR, first aid, professional credentials).
  • Acting MOD as needed.

Sales, Marketing & Member Engagement
  • Develop and execute effective marketing and public relations strategies to promote membership, programming, and services.
  • Design promotional materials, forms, and flyers for facility use.
  • Conduct facility tours, orientations, and fitness assessments for new members.
  • Set and track monthly personal training revenue goals; promote and manage personal training services.
  • Create and implement member recruitment and engagement plans.
  • Respond to guest feedback promptly and ensure high levels of satisfaction.

Financial & Administrative Oversight
  • Process payroll and financial reporting in compliance with Arch Amenities Group policies.
  • Maintain budgetary discipline through efficient staffing and resource management.
  • Ensure accurate collection of all guest fees and class charges.
  • Track program participation, facility usage, and sales metrics.

Qualifications:
Education & Certification
  • College degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Promotion, or related field preferred.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, NSCA) required.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.

Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a health or fitness facility required.
  • Experience in sales, membership marketing, program development, and staff leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and facility management software.
  • Must be energetic, enthusiastic, professional, and motivational.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods.

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity required for use of fitness equipment, computers, and office tools.
