Overview

The Center for Study Away (CSA) at Macalester College is seeking to hire a Study Away Programming Coordinator who will collaborate with the current staff to support programming and events for Macalester students seeking to study away or returning from their program.
This position is 0.22 FTE, requiring about 10-12 hours per week during the academic year (September - May), and will include limited evening hours a few times each semester.
This position primarily supports the planning, program development, and implementation of pre-departure and returnee events, and includes many opportunities for student interaction and facilitation. Additionally, this position is responsible for office support for study away software, completing tasks related to short-term study away programs, and managing other tasks as assigned.
About the Department:
Macalester's Center for Study Away supports intellectual and cultural engagement through study away, as an enduring part of a liberal arts education. We strive to ensure that study away experiences are accessible to all students and reflect the core values of Macalester College - scholarship, internationalism, multiculturalism, and service to society.
We pursue our mission by:
Maintaining an approved list of high-quality study away programs, including administering Macalester-run programs and exchanges with international partners.
Advising students to make informed decisions about choosing to study away and selecting a program; we encourage them to reflect on their goals (academic, professional, and personal) and how to integrate study away into their Macalester education; we provide resources on opportunities and considerations throughout the process.
Prioritizing a student-centered approach to programming and support during the study away lifecycle, from the application phase, to pre-departure preparation, to on-site guidance, and finally to post-program returnee reflection and community-building.
Collaborating with the college administration, faculty, academic departments, campus offices and units, as well as study away organizations and off-campus partners.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Study Away Programming: Support in the planning, program development, and implementation of CSA pre-departure (info sessions, orientation) and returnee events (Welcome Back Luncheon, Lunch Series, Reintegration Event, Meet-ups); collaborate on program details with Peer Leaders, study away staff, and other campus partners; manage administrative tasks of events like email reminders and tracking attendance; deliver content of programming and facilitate conversations/reflections with students.

  • Study Away Software: Provide office support for Via Global software for effective use by the CSA and for students; edit content for the upcoming student application cycle (advising, application, post-decision); update application materials and forms; coordinate projects related to software and site; process change of program requests; receive continuous training on software features.

  • Short-Term Study Away Programs: Assist with tasks related to courses with a study away component; process student forms; update program pages; support in student preparation and pre-departure orientation.

  • Other Responsibilities: Complete other responsibilities as assigned, such as potentially organizing campus visits from partners, updating budget & cost estimate info, preparing student data, and helping with study away promotional events; participate as an active member of the team; participate in department and college activities and support implementation of shared goals and initiatives; provide backup support to other members of the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 1-3 years of work experience (or equivalent) in a professional or educational setting

  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills to plan and carry out programs and events, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and pay attention to detail

  • Familiarity with facilitating and leading group conversations and events

  • Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with diverse students and partners across and outside campus

  • Skills in critical thinking, active listening, and creative problem-solving

  • Experience with office and database technologies (word processing, spreadsheets, databases) and ability to operate and understand current computer systems

Preferred:

  • Intellectual curiosity, interest in higher education and education abroad professional development activities

  • Understanding of experiential learning and/or intercultural communication concepts

  • Significant intercultural living experience (could be for study or work)

  • Demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented populations

  • Experience with Via Global Software for Study Abroad

Compensation:

$23.19-$24.25 Hourly
