Job description

CMM Programmer / Quality Technician
Location: Hudson, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Position Summary
Borg Design is looking for someone interested in learning CMM programming and dimensional inspection in a precision CNC manufacturing environment.
Previous CMM programming experience is not required. We are willing to train the right person who has strong mechanical aptitude, is comfortable working with computers and technical information, and is interested in developing a career in CMM programming and quality inspection.
This could be a good opportunity for someone currently working in CNC machining, CNC programming, robotics, manufacturing engineering, inspection, SolidWorks or other 3D CAD work who would like to learn a new technical skill.
The position will involve learning to create and modify CMM programs, inspect machined components, interpret engineering drawings and CAD models, and understand how dimensional inspection relates to the machining process.
You do not need to know all of this coming in. We are looking for someone who has the aptitude and interest to learn it.
What You Will Learn and Do
  • Learn to create, modify, and run CMM programs using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar CMM software.
  • Work from engineering drawings and 3D CAD models to develop inspection programs.
  • Learn CMM setup, part alignment, datum structures, probe configurations, and measurement strategies.
  • Perform dimensional inspection of precision CNC-machined components.
  • Learn to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, pin gauges, thread gauges, and other inspection equipment.
  • Work with machinists, CNC programmers, Engineering, and Quality to understand dimensional issues and manufacturing processes.
  • Assist with first-piece, in-process, and final inspection.
  • Help prepare First Article Inspection documentation and other quality records.
  • Develop an understanding of how machining, tooling, workholding, material, and inspection methods can affect dimensional results.
  • Maintain CMM programs and inspection documentation.
Who We Are Looking For
We are more interested in aptitude, technical ability, and willingness to learn than in direct CMM experience.
A good candidate may have experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • CNC machining or CNC programming
  • Robotics or robotic programming
  • Manufacturing or mechanical engineering
  • Quality inspection
  • SolidWorks or other 3D CAD/modeling software
  • Computer-based programming or automation
  • Precision mechanical work
  • Technical or vocational training

You should be comfortable working with computers, numbers, drawings, and three-dimensional geometry and be interested in understanding how manufactured parts are measured.
Good attention to detail, logical problem-solving ability, and a willingness to ask questions and learn are important.
A college degree is not required.
Helpful, But Not Required
Any of the following would be helpful, but we do not expect applicants to have all of them:
  • Previous CMM experience
  • Experience with PC-DMIS, Calypso, or other metrology software
  • Experience reading engineering drawings
  • Basic understanding of GD&T
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment
  • CNC milling or turning experience
  • SolidWorks or other CAD experience
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, or other precision manufacturing
What We Offer
  • Training in CMM programming and dimensional inspection
  • Opportunity to develop a specialized technical skill
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and capability
  • Medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits
  • Opportunities for technical development and career growth
  • Hands-on experience with complex precision components in a modern CNC manufacturing environment
About Borg Design
Borg Design is a family-owned precision manufacturing company in Hudson, Massachusetts. We manufacture precision CNC-machined components for aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, industrial, and other demanding markets.
This position works closely with our machinists, CNC programmers, Engineering, Production, and Quality teams.
If you are technically inclined, enjoy figuring out how things work, and believe you have the aptitude to learn CMM programming, we encourage you to apply even if you have never programmed a CMM before.
