Job description

CompuNet is seeking an Internal Application Engineering Manager, to lead a team of engineers responsible for building, supporting, and evolving internal applications and related platforms. This role centers on managing personnel, overseeing project delivery, and guiding engineering execution to ensure work is completed efficiently, consistently, and to the highest standards of quality. The Internal Application Engineering Manager is accountable for developing engineering talent, establishing effective engineering practices, and overseeing the execution of solutions from implementation through deployment and ongoing support. This includes ownership of quality, development pipelines, platform operations, and delivery outcomes across a range of applications, services, and platforms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Internal Application Engineering Manager, will lead and support the following areas of responsibility:

  • Directly manage a team of engineers, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development
  • Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship to develop technical skills, problem-solving ability, and overall effectiveness
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across the team
  • Own delivery of application, integration, and platform-related solutions across a range of technologies
  • Ensure consistent and predictable delivery through effective planning, prioritization, and execution
  • Own overall product quality, maintainability, and consistency across applications and services
  • Establish and reinforce practices such as work reviews, development standards, and automated testing
  • Guide engineers in implementing modular, maintainable, and well-structured solutions appropriate to the problem space
  • Remain engaged in technical decision-making to support effective implementation and delivery
  • Own the development lifecycle from inception through release, including CI/CD pipelines and release processes
  • Establish reliable workflows for validation, automated testing, and deployment across environments
  • Ensure deployments to test and production environments are repeatable, low-risk, and well understood by the team
  • Improve delivery workflows to reduce manual effort and increase confidence in releases
  • Expand team capability across frameworks, platforms, and cloud-based solutions aligned to business needs
  • Introduce new technologies incrementally through practical application within active development efforts
  • Encourage thoughtful evaluation of tools and approaches, selecting appropriate solutions based on requirements and constraints
  • Ensure applications and services are built with appropriate logging, metrics, and visibility into system behavior
  • Promote practices that improve system reliability, performance, and diagnosability
  • Partner with architecture and operations teams to align development, integration, and runtime practices
  • Help define and reinforce clear ownership boundaries across application engineering, platform, and operations teams
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience in software or application engineering roles
  • 2+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams, including direct people management
  • Experience delivering and supporting production applications or services
  • Experience with modern development practices including code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience working in cross-functional technology environments
  • Experience working across multiple frameworks, platforms, or development ecosystems
  • Experience improving development workflows, including testing practices, deployment processes, and release management
  • Experience with cloud platforms or integrating applications with cloud service, particularly Microsoft Azure
  • Experience working across a mix of application development, platform capabilities, and integrated systems
  • Experience mentoring and developing early-career engineers or mixed-skill teams
