Job description

Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Engineering Manager - Capital Projects in Chicago, IL, Bellingham, WA or Sedro-Woolley, WA!
Sedron is a leading provider of circular waste management technologies for agricultural manure and municipal biosolids processing, deploying facilities across several North American regions. Since its founding in 2014, Sedron has pioneered innovative solutions, including the patented Varcor® system, to transform waste into clean water, organic fertilizer, and carbon-negative commodities. With strong engineering expertise, Sedron's processes reduce nutrient pollution, lower operational expenses, and promote sustainability at a fraction of traditional costs.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the engineering team assigned to a major capital project and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, coordinated engineering solutions that support successful project execution.
This role provides technical leadership across engineering disciplines, manages engineering resources, and ensures engineering deliverables meet project scope, schedule, safety, and regulatory requirements. The Engineering Manager works closely with the Project Director and Project Engineer to integrate engineering activities with procurement and construction. The position serves as the technical authority for project engineering execution.
Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position:
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary engineering team including discipline leads and design engineers to ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget
  • Provide technical oversight and coordination of external engineering consultants, design contractors, and EPC partners, ensuring deliverables meet project requirements, quality standards, budget and schedule commitments
  • Support stage gate appropriate engineering design development and optimization efforts, while enforcing equally appropriate change management processes
  • Establish engineering execution strategies aligned with project objectives
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are technically sound, constructible, and compliant with project requirement
  • Promote a strong culture of engineering quality, safety, and technical excellence
  • Provide oversight of technical design decisions and engineering standards
  • Coordinate integration of Product Engineering developments into project design, overseeing technical aspects of Engineering Change Notice process and post-HAZOP Management of Change
  • Incorporate value engineering and constructability reviews into design process while ensuring compliance with applicable process requirements, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead technical design reviews and approve major engineering deliverables
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout project development and execution
  • Develop and manage the engineering execution plan
  • Support the development of project scope, schedule, and budget through a project stage gate approach, validating proposed engineering and equipment budgets at each stage
  • Support Procurement activities, making sure engineering has provided complete technical bid packages, bid evaluation support, and timely review and comment on vendor deliverables and questions
  • Manage engineering progress to meet project schedule and milestones
  • Manage engineering costs and forecasts (in-house and third party) to meet project budget
  • Resolve engineering issues impacting project scope, cost, or schedule in collaboration with Procurement, Manufacturing, and Construction
  • Support efficient fabrication and construction execution by ensuring timely responses to RFIs, design clarifications, and field change requests
  • Report project progress, issues, and concerns to the Project Director and company management.
  • Work with discipline managers to plan and allocate engineering resources across disciplines
  • Manage engineering workloads and staffing requirements
  • Mentor and develop discipline leads and engineering staff
  • Foster collaboration across engineering, procurement, and construction teams
  • Work closely with the Project Director to align engineering activities with overall project objectives
  • Support procurement activities including equipment specifications and vendor technical reviews
  • Coordinate with construction teams to ensure constructability and field readiness

This position allows for growth and career progression to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion.
