Engineering Manager

Ready to build what’s next with one of the world’s most iconic brands?

Why Join Subway?

At Subway, we are not standing still. We are building.

This is a business focused on what matters most: growing franchisee profitability, strengthening our brand and creating long-term value. The people who thrive here are the ones who want to make a real impact.

You will not just do the work. You will shape it.

We move fast. We think like owners. We make decisions that matter. We hold ourselves to a high standard because what we do directly impacts thousands of franchisees around the world.

If you bring energy, accountability and a bias for action, you will fit right in.

We take the work seriously, but we also know the best results come from teams that support each other, celebrate wins and show up ready to build something better every day.

This is your chance to be part of what’s next.

About the Role:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of engineers while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, scalable software solutions. This role balances people leadership, delivery accountability, and technical oversight, partnering closely with product, platform, and cross-functional teams. The Engineering Manager creates an environment that enables engineers to do their best work while meeting business, quality, and reliability goals.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering growth, engagement, and high performance.
  • Set clear expectations, goals, and performance standards aligned to organizational priorities; conduct regular feedback, performance reviews, and career development planning.
  • Support hiring efforts, onboarding, and team capacity planning.
  • Own delivery outcomes for the team, ensuring commitments are met with high quality and reliability; partner with product management to plan, prioritize, and deliver roadmap initiatives.
  • Balance delivery speed with sustainable engineering practices and technical quality; remove blockers and manage dependencies across teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight, ensuring engineering best practices are followed including code quality, testing, security, and documentation.
  • Partner with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and Architecture teams to deliver end-to-end solutions; communicate delivery status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and team productivity; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and learning.

Qualifications (some examples listed below):

  • 6–10 years of experience in software engineering roles; 2–4 years managing or leading engineering teams.
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop engineers.
  • Solid technical background with experience in modern software development environments.
  • Ability to balance technical quality, delivery timelines, and team health.
  • Experience working in Agile or product-driven development models.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience delivering production software in enterprise or customer-facing environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • People Management: Yes | Direct Reports: Typically 5–10 engineers | Travel: Minimal to none.

What do we offer?

  • Insurance Plans (Medical, Life)
  • Pension/401K/RSP (country specific)
  • Competitive Bonus
  • Mobility Allowance
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Company Holidays
  • Volunteering time
  • And More……

Compensation: The base pay range for this role is $138,300 - 179,900 annually
