Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in a high school.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good conduct standing with the school district.
  • Valid Adult and Child First AID/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red cross.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in babysitting, tutoring, or volunteering with children.
  • Bilingual/biliterate in a minimum of one target language such as Spanish, French, Creole, Portuguese, or other language.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of emergency protocols, first aid, and general safety guidelines relevant to children.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous tasks.
  • Ability to work well with young children grades Pre-K through 5th.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
  • Ability to remain patient and understanding when working with children of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students to participate and engage in program activities.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children during the after-school program.
  • Monitor children's activities to maintain a safe and positive environment.
  • Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Help facilitate games, arts and crafts, and enrichment activities under staff guidance.
  • Encourage student participation and engagement in all activities.
  • Assist with supervising children during program hours, including arrival, snack time, activities, and dismissal.
  • Provide support in preparing materials, setting up for activities, and handling post-activity cleanup.
  • Provide homework help and academic support to students as needed.
  • Encourage good study habits and a positive attitude toward learning.
  • Communicate effectively with program staff, students, and parents.
  • Report any issues or concerns to the After School Program Director promptly.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
