Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Bridge Small Group Teacher & Program Support

Responsible to: Director of The Bridge and Student Support

The Bridge Small Group Teacher & Program Support is considered an employee of The Christ School. This position has been established to provide small group Orton-Gillingham reading instruction and consistent classroom support to Bridge classrooms, and to support the work of The Bridge division of TCS.

A TCS Teacher/Staff Exhibits:

  • A deep faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and acceptance of the authority of scriptures as a guide for faith and living. Actively pursues spiritual growth through personal devotions, Bible study, church involvement, etc.

Specific Responsibilities:

The Bridge Small Group Teacher Duties:

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflect an understanding of the dyslexic learner, the Orton-Gillingham approach, multisensory math, and individual student needs.

  • Observe and evaluate student performance and development.

  • Provide prescriptive and diagnostic small group instruction based upon the students’ specific needs as documented by an educational evaluation and classroom progress.

  • Use formative and summative assessments and document student progress and achievement; assess and analyze student strengths and needs; design and implement appropriate instruction to facilitate learning and growth.

  • Collaborate between classroom teachers, families, and The Bridge administration.

  • Complete Orton-Gillingham Academy training coursework (level to be determined by Director).

The Bridge Program Support Duties:

  • Assist with and assess students for progress monitoring and admission throughout the school year.

  • Perform all classroom teacher duties according to a regular schedule if needed as a substitute.

  • Ensure a warm and safe classroom environment for students. Uphold the standards of behavior while reinforcing a loving, nurturing Christian environment.

  • Assist with event planning and execution for large events hosted by The Bridge and/or Student Support.

  • Perform duties outside of the classroom as assigned by the administration, i.e. lunchroom, carpool, recess, office support.

  • Assist the Director of The Bridge and Student Support with coordinating meetings, schedules, inventories of materials, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Evidence and articulate a faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

  • Experience with and knowledge of dyslexia and related learning disabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education from an accredited college/university

  • Understand and actively support The Christ School mission, vision, and defining characteristics

  • Proficiency in GoogleSuite (docs, sheets, gmail, calendar)

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to effectively traverse possibly uneven ground to manage students

  • Must be able to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs and transport about 10-15 pounds
