Description
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the daily coordination and successful operation of aquatics and youth sports programs. This position provides leadership for lifeguard operations, swim lessons, and sports programming by ensuring a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience for members and participants. The Program Coordinator supports staff recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, program quality, and member engagement while living the YMCA's mission and values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Lifeguard Operations
  • Assist with the supervision and daily operation of all aquatic facilities.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, schedule, and evaluate lifeguard staff.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA, state, local, and health department regulations.
  • Conduct regular lifeguard observations, drills, and performance coaching.
  • Verify completion of required certifications and training.
  • Assist with emergency action planning, incident documentation, and follow-up.
  • Ensure daily completion of water quality testing, facility inspections, and safety documentation.
  • Monitor staffing levels and coordinate shift coverage.
Swim Lessons
  • Coordinate all group and private swim lesson programs.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise swim instructors.
  • Ensure instructors follow YMCA curriculum and teaching standards.
  • Monitor class quality through regular observations and coaching.
