Job description

Position Purpose
The Portfolio Manager III is responsible for working with an assigned commercial loan portfolio to manage loan renewals, loan extensions, collection of financial statements, credit underwriting/ evaluation, loan structuring, and exception monitoring. The Portfolio Manager also works closely with the Credit Manager to manage the Bank's high-risk loans including remediation, collection or liquidation of these non-performing loans.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct appropriate financial analysis and research to underwrite loan renewals, extensions and modifications. Analyze and structure the renewal proposals, complete the underwriting and evaluation process to ensure that deadlines are consistently met.
  • Ensure all required documentation is collected and maintained as required by existing policy.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of current portfolio clients whose loans are maturing or facilities being renewed including review of financials, site visits, and assessment of general business information and other factors that would be indicators of risk.
  • In partnership with the Relationship Manager Team, establish and maintain relationships with current and prospective customers.
  • Leverage customer knowledge to proactively identify and recommend opportunities to cross-sell additional loan and non-credit products to clients.
  • Ensure loan terms and conditions adhere to established credit policy. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, agency guidelines and organization policies.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to senior management.
  • Work with outside vendors and professionals to remedy situations as needed.
  • Perform/create corporate financial spreads utilizing the Sageworks Software Program
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining an assigned Portfolio of business relationships and meeting annual goals/metrics accordingly.  

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in a commercial lending environment with proven experience in credit evaluation, portfolio risk assessment and/or special assets
  • Experience as a Relationship Manager is a plus.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of commercial lending process including credit evaluation and underwriting.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to set priorities in a multi-task environment and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of credit and financial analysis tools and techniques.
  • Ability to identify and quantify business risks as well as the key drivers of risk and focus decisions accordingly, especially with complex credits.
  • Ability to produce a quality product at a high volume.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a customer call. 
  • Exhibits a bias towards action; takes ownership of the process.
  • Ability to accurately interpret lending policy and apply same to the management of the portfolio.
  • Thorough knowledge of banking regulations and laws governing commercial lending.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office with specific capability in Word and Excel.

Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually. Final determination of where you are at in the salary range is based on numerous factors such as geographical location, relevant experience, skill set, education, and ability to meet qualifications within the job description. 
  • Additional Compensation: This role will include a yearly annual target bonus based on individual performance.

Working Arrangements

  • This is a hybrid role expected to work in office Monday - Thursday. This person will ideally sit out of our Reston, VA office location. You will be able to work remotely on Friday.
