Title: Manager I, Business
Oversees the financial operations and business functions of the School Nutrition program. This position manages accounting processes, financial reporting, compliance, and operational procedures to ensure the fiscal integrity of the School Nutrition Services department. The Business Manager I provides leadership and oversight for financial staff, ensures adherence to federal, state, and district regulations, and supports strategic financial planning to maintain efficient and compliant program operations.
Essential Job Duties
• Manages the daily financial operations of the School Nutrition Services department, including accounting, budgeting, revenue management, expenditure monitoring, and Time & Effort oversight.
• Oversees the preparation, review, reconciliation, and approval of financial transactions, including journal entries, inter-fund transfers, general ledger activity, invoices, and vendor payments to ensure compliance with district policies and financial controls.
• Monitors program, grant, and catering budgets and expenditures to ensure alignment with approved funding, financial plans, and reporting requirements.
• Supervises the collection, reconciliation, validation, and reporting of daily cafeteria revenues, weekly cash income reports, deposits, student refunds, and program receipts.
• Maintains oversight of School Nutrition financial records, cash transactions, and reconciliation processes to ensure accuracy and accountability.
• Oversees meal accountability systems, edit check processes, and reimbursement claim submissions to ensure compliance with USDA, Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), state, and district regulations.
• Oversees GaDOE reporting and program setup processes, including State Application Information, Seamless Summer Options, Verification Data, and Sanitation Scores.
• Establishes, implements, and maintains internal financial controls, standard operating procedures, and fiscal management practices for School Nutrition programs.
• Analyzes financial data and prepares reports, forecasts, trend analyses, and recommendations to support strategic planning, operational decision-making, and fiscal sustainability.
• Compiles, prepares, and maintains financial reports, accountability records, audit documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Supervises, trains, and provides guidance to School Nutrition Finance staff, including reviewing work for accuracy, coordinating workflow, and supporting performance management and professional development.
• Collaborates with district departments, including Finance, Procurement, Payroll, and Compliance, to support efficient financial operations and improved financial systems, procedures, and reporting tools.
• Supports audits, monitoring reviews, ad hoc reporting, and compliance inspections.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university preferred. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting analysis or financial management is required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or lead-level experience managing financial operations or staff required.
• Experience working with governmental accounting, grant management, or public sector financial systems required.
• Experience with ERP financial systems (such as Munis or similar platforms) preferred.
