Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Consumers Energy knows job number one is to keep the lights on for customers. We are committed to delivering reliable, clean, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.

Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the Parnall Office located in Jackson, Michigan. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Energy Market Engineer is responsible for short-term production cost modeling, evaluating, and optimizing MISO energy market offer strategies. In addition, this position evaluates and reports on generation unit performance, energy market performance, and electric supply performance metrics. The Energy Market Engineer gathers, stores, and manages data from various sources and evaluates datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights. The primary objective of this analysis work is to inform business strategy, forecast trends, and predict outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Create, maintain, and operate electric supply models in the areas of production costs, economic analysis, and electric supply forecasting.
* Maximize utilization of critical electric supply data software platforms such as PCI, including in-depth understanding of data parameters, integrating tools into business processes by applying MISO market knowledge, and utilizing data to gain business insights and develop market strategies.
* Monitor, advise on, and implement MISO energy policies to maximize value for customers while ensuring compliance.
* Assist in the development and implementation of the utility's natural gas trading and hedging strategy aligned with procurement, reliability, and cost-management objectives.
* Evaluate and recommend appropriate participation in physical and financial natural gas markets.
* Design strategies for hedging price volatility and managing basis exposure.
* Support internal education efforts to improve organizational understanding of energy trading activities and associated controls.
* Other non-essential duties as assigned or as may be necessary.

o (OR) Associate's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field, with four (4) or more years of experience in data analysis, data models, and energy markets.
o (OR) High School Diploma/GED, with six (6) or more years of experience in data analysis, data models, and energy markets.
