A Program Manager Contract job is a temporary or fixed-term role where a professional oversees multiple related projects, ensuring alignment with business goals. These managers coordinate teams, manage budgets, mitigate risks, and drive project execution within a specified timeframe. Unlike full-time roles, contract positions typically focus on delivering specific outcomes within a limited duration. Program Manager Contractors may work for a company directly or through a consulting firm. Their expertise is critical in implementing strategic initiatives efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a program manager contract?

To thrive as a Program Manager Contract, you need strong project management abilities, expertise in contract negotiation, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience in business or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (such as MS Project or Asana), contract management systems, and certifications like PMP or Contract Management Certification are often preferred. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure smooth program delivery, compliance with contractual obligations, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.

What are the typical challenges faced by program manager contracts and how can they be overcome?

Program Manager Contracts often face the challenge of balancing multiple projects while ensuring all contractual obligations are met on time and within budget. Navigating complex stakeholder requirements and adapting to changing project scopes are also common hurdles. Make an Impact Through Effective Contract Management

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Contract Management Project Manager to support a public-sector organization’s Contract Management team. This role will play a key part in administering a major competitive solicitation, helping move procurements from committee coordination and proposal evaluation through approvals, award issuance, and contract execution.

The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple priorities with precision, and enjoys bringing structure and clarity to complex processes. You’ll work closely with internal staff, contractors, evaluators, and stakeholders to keep critical projects moving forward.

What You’ll Do
  • Coordinate scoring committees, including system access, meeting scheduling and facilitation, communications, and contact-list management.

  • Route contracts and track progress through approvals and signature.

  • Support contractor-pool solicitations by distributing bid opportunities, coordinating proposal evaluations, and entering Task Work Orders with selected firms.

  • Assist with routine and complex Assignment Agreements.

  • Support solicitation setup and other administrative processes.

  • Process insurance requests and maintain required documentation.

  • Maintain accurate records across contracting and financial systems.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and improve processes.

  • Provide additional administrative and project support as needed.

What You Bring

  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and accountability.

  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, and planning skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to simplify complex information for others.

  • Strong follow-through, diligence, and commitment to quality.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, resourcefulness, adaptability, and sound judgment.

  • Excellent collaboration and consensus-building skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with contracting or financial database systems.

  • Ability to work independently and manage projects with limited direction.

  • Experience coordinating working groups, committees, or cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience
  • Oracle PeopleSoft and/or Salesforce.

  • Tableau.

  • Jira and Confluence.

  • Contracting, procurement, competitive solicitation, or financial administration.

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field.

  • Familiarity with energy, environmental, or economic development programs.

Technology You'll Use
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint

  • Oracle PeopleSoft/enterprise financial systems

  • Salesforce

  • Tableau

  • Jira and Confluence

The Ideal Candidate

You’re the person others rely on to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. You anticipate next steps, keep stakeholders informed, identify potential issues early, and bring order to complicated processes.

You’re comfortable facilitating meetings, coordinating people with competing priorities, tracking numerous details, and working through processes that require accuracy and persistence. At the same time, you bring a strategic mindset and understand how effective contract administration contributes to broader organizational goals.

If you’re a detail-driven project manager who enjoys solving problems, coordinating complex processes, and helping teams get things done, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a mission-driven organization.
