Job description

Intro

Are you ready to explore a world of possibilities, both at work and during your time off? Join our American Airlines family, and you’ll travel the world, grow your expertise and become the best version of you. As you embark on a new journey, you’ll tackle challenges with flexibility and grace, learning new skills and advancing your career while having the time of your life. Feel free to enrich both your personal and work life and hop on board!

Why you'll love this job
  • The Manager, Program Management Office, is part of the Technical Operations Division.
  • This role sits at the center of high-impact initiatives, providing clarity and direction across complex, cross-functional work while partnering with leaders to shape priorities, surface risks early, and enable informed, data-driven decisions. It offers strong enterprise visibility and the opportunity to influence how work is structured, aligned, and ultimately delivered successfully.
What you'll do

As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced.  Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations.

  • Provide program-level leadership to ensure initiatives are clearly defined, aligned to priorities, and structured for successful delivery
  • Identify and communicate key risks, dependencies, and interdependencies across multiple teams and workstreams
  • Drive clarity on what matters most within initiatives, ensuring focus on critical outcomes and business impact
  • Translate complex work into clear, concise, fact-based insights for leadership, including options, tradeoffs, and potential impacts
  • Facilitate alignment across stakeholders, ensuring accountability for outcomes is clearly defined and understood
  • Partner with business leaders to evaluate initiative progress, proactively addressing gaps and barriers to execution
  • Support the development of business cases, including Five-Point analyses, to inform strategic decision-making
  • Collaborate with Finance to align funding, validate assumptions, and support investment decisions
  • Establish and maintain governance structures that promote visibility, transparency, and informed decision-making
  • Ensure initiatives are positioned for execution by the appropriate teams without directly managing task-level activities
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in strategy, program management, consulting, or a related discipline

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Experience working in airline, transportation, or a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience with enterprise-level program governance or strategic portfolio management
  • Exposure to Finance processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and investment planning
  • Experience supporting cross-functional initiatives and working with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases or supporting financial analyses
  • Experience supporting senior leadership with strategic decision-making and initiative prioritization
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA) or relevant certifications

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to synthesize data and insights into executive-level materials and recommendations
  • Executive communication and presentation skills
  • Stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strategic thinking and decision support capabilities
  • Program and portfolio oversight experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and drive clarity in a fast-paced environment
  • Current PMP certification
