A program director is an upper-management position found within organizations across almost all industries. Your primary job duties include coordinating, implementing, and overseeing all details of a company’s operation and programs. You monitor the budget, create community programs, supervise other managers, and develop better business practices. The exact job duties vary widely depending on industry and employer. Job description
This position provides leadership in curriculum development, resident recruitment and assessment, faculty development, outcomes assessment, quality assurance, patient safety, and program administration. The Program Director works collaboratively with WSDM leadership, HPU Health clinical sites, specialty faculty, and affiliated healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive comprehensive educational experiences that prepare them for independent practice in dental anesthesiology.
The Program Director maintains an active clinical practice within the HPU Oral Health Network, providing anesthesia services, resident supervision, and direct patient care while serving as a role model for clinical excellence and professionalism.
The position allocation consists of approximately:
60% Clinical Activities (3 days/week)
40% Administrative, Educational, and Scholarly Activities (2 days/week)
Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Candidates must successfully complete a background check and credentialing process satisfactory to High Point University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
DDS or DMD degree from aCODA accreditedinstitutionorequivalent
Completion of a CODA-accredited Dental Anesthesiology Residency Program.
Board Eligible or Board Certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology (ADBA).
Eligible for unrestricted dental licensure in North Carolina.
Current certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
Demonstrated experience in administration of office-based anesthesia and hospital-based anesthesia services.
Demonstrated commitment to resident education and mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
Previousexperience as a residency program director, associate program director, or educational leader.
Experience with CODA accreditation processes, self-studies, and site visits.
Experience in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, and faculty development.
Experience with quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Experience with simulation-based education.

Program Leadership and Administration
Provide overall leadership and management of the Dental Anesthesiology Residency Program.
Develop andmaintainprogram goals,objectives, competencies, and assessment processes.
Ensure ongoing compliance with CODA accreditation standards.
Lead program self-study, annual reporting, accreditation documentation, and site visit preparation.
Manage programbudgetsin collaboration with WSDM leadership.
Participate in strategic planning and program development initiatives.
Maintain resident policies, manuals, and program documentation.
Curriculum Development and Educational Oversight
Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate the didactic and clinical curriculum.
Ensure residents achieve competency in all required areas of dental anesthesiology.
Coordinate educational experiences across clinical and hospital environments.
Integrate evidence-based practice, patient safety, quality improvement, and interprofessional education into the curriculum.
Monitor educational outcomes and implement program improvements asindicatedby assessment data.
Facilitate resident seminars, case conferences, morbidity and mortality reviews, journal clubs, and simulation exercises.
Resident Recruitment, Evaluation, and Mentorship
Direct resident recruitment, application review, interviewing,selection, and onboarding processes.
Provide ongoing mentoring and professional development for residents.
Conduct resident evaluations and competency assessments.
Develop individualized learning plans and remediation strategies when necessary.
Ensure residents receivetimelyfeedbackregardingacademic and clinical performance.
Monitor resident well-being and professional development.
Faculty Development and Collaboration
Recruit, orient, and support participating faculty.
Promote faculty calibration and consistency in resident assessment.
Facilitate faculty development activities related to teaching, evaluation, and clinical supervision.
Collaborate with specialty and interdisciplinary faculty to enhance educational experiences.
Quality Assurance, Patient Safety, and Outcomes Assessment
Oversee quality assurance and quality improvement activities related to anesthesia services.
Monitor patient safety outcomes and resident clinical performance.
Review adverse events, complications, andincident reports.
Develop andmaintainprogram outcomes assessment systems.
Analyze resident achievement, procedural experience, and program effectiveness data.
Implement continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Clinical Responsibilities (3 Days Per Week)
Provide directanesthesiaforpatient care within the HPU Oral Health Network.
Supervise residents during anesthesia care and patient management.
Participate in preoperative assessment, anesthesia delivery, recovery management, and emergency preparedness activities.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies, state regulations, and professional standards.
Serve as a clinical mentor and role model for residents and faculty.
Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and patient care conferences.
Scholarly Activity
Support resident scholarly activity, research, and quality improvement projects.
Participate in professional organizations related to dental anesthesiology and health professions education.
Contribute to scholarly dissemination, presentations, and publications.
Promote evidence-based practice throughout the residency program.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reportdirectly to the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Dental Education.
Collaborates closely with the Dean, Chief Dental Officer, Graduate Medical Education partners, and specialty faculty.
Receives annual performance evaluation from WSDM leadership with input from residents, faculty, and clinical personnel.
Responsible formaintainingprogram compliance with CODA accreditation standards and institutional requirements.
