The Associate Program Director (APD) assists the Program Director (PD) in the performance of educational, evaluative, academic and administrative duties essential to the running of the Internal Medicine Residency Program (the Program). S/he also functions as the Residency Director of Ambulatory Care. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures. Responsibilities1. EDUCATIONAL
2. EVALUATION: Actively participate on the Clinical Competency Committee that oversees the development and maintains a system of milestone and competency-based evaluations. May chair the Committee.
3. RECRUITMENT: Actively participates in the Resident Selection Committee that oversees the recruitment of residents and the Chief Resident/Junior Faculty Member. May function as the chair of the Committee. Actively participates in interviewing candidates (at least in equal proportion to other faculty members) as assigned by the PD. Reviews all applications including Dean's Letters and letters of recommendation.

Graduation from an accredited medical school. ABIM certification in Internal Medicine.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two (3) years' experience as a faculty member of an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program. One year as Chief Resident may count towards this requirement. Other combinations of applicable experience and education may be acceptable if approved by the Program Director.
LICENSURE
Licensed as a Physician in Connecticut. Active DEA certificate
SPECIAL SKILLS
General internal medicine diagnosis, treatment and consultation. Teaching and mentoring skills for students and residents. Administrative skills for overseeing and coordinating House staff and medical student schedules as well as coordinating lectures and student activities. Collaborative skills for managing academic and administrative aspects of the position. Recruiting skills. Skills in curriculum development, clinical research, process improvement, information technology and/or statistics.
