POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Program Coordinator will intentionally foster a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Oversee day-to-day program operation and ensure consistency with evidence-based practices.

2. Plans and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values. Promotes and supports the potential of all students in programs.

3. Help to create new approaches to serve the needs of program participants. Advocates water safety and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall program experience.

4. Coordinates participant enrollment and placement for all aquatic programs

5. Assigns and schedules Safety Around Water, Homeschool Swim & Gym, Progressive Swim Lessons, Private Swim Lessons and Specialty Camps. Assists in payroll and annual reviews.

6. Communicates with parents and caregivers about program delivery to increase participation.

7. Recruit, hire, retain and supervise assigned staff.

8. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

9. Manages the aquatics department, including monitoring the department budget to meet fiscal objectives

10. Conduct quarterly Inservice swim instructor training and maintain training records.

11. Make decisions regarding the cancellation of classes in the event of inclement weather, pool malfunction, and the like. Communicates the information to all affected staff and participants and their families

12. Engages in active listening to build relationships, understand individual goals and interests, and take initiative to assist in the attainment of those goals within the aquatics department.

13. Hours consist of a combination of in-class teaching and administrative hours.

14. Manages the aquatics department’s programming, including monitoring the department budgets to meet fiscal objectives.

15. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.

16. Ensures a high level of customer service for all program participants. Responds to all members and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

17. Able to act as a program spokesperson, when called upon.

18. All other duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

FISCAL MANAGEMENT: Acts responsibly with the Y’s resources, following budgeting policies and procedures and reporting irregularities immediately.

FUNCTIONAL EXPERTISE: Has the functional, technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment. Uses best practices, guidelines, and industry standards as a framework to improve to improve performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and some college course work preferred
  • Must be 18+ years of age
  • One to three years of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules.
  • Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration and YMCA Swim Instructor Certification,
  • YMCA Trainer Certifications preferred (Swim Instructor).
