Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography, and Administration of Justice.
Position Summary
The Motorcycle Instructor Assistant works closely with the lead motorcycle instructor to support the successful delivery of rider training courses. Classes are held seasonally on weekends at the main campus, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Between May and September.
Key Responsibilities
  • The assistant helps ensure that classes run smoothly and safely by preparing and maintaining the training range, setting up and moving cones, repositioning motorcycles between exercises, assisting with equipment organization, and assisting with pre-class setup and post-class cleanup.
  • In addition, the assistant may demonstrate riding exercises and course activities before students perform them, helping participants better understand instructions and expectations.
  • The position also provides general support to the lead instructor throughout the training day, including monitoring the training area, assisting with class logistics, and helping create a positive learning environment for students of varying skill levels.
  • Candidates should be dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions.
  • The ability to move motorcycles, lift and carry equipment, and remain active throughout the day is important.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to support students and instructors are essential for success in this role.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
