Neighborhood Self Help by Older Persons Projects (SHOPP) is a dynamic and innovative non-profit organization that supports older adults, caregivers, and individuals with disabilities. SHOPP offers 12 essential programs, including CCNP (Community Care Network Program), 4 Older Adult Centers (Casa Boricua, Leon, Soundview, and Guess), NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities), Pop Up Café, Case Management with Friendly Visiting, Elder Justice, Caregiver Support Program, and NY Connects. SHOPP's mission is to enhance the strength and resilience of individuals, regardless of age or ability, through innovative programs and support services.
The purpose of Neighborhood SHOPP PopUp Café pilot program is to address food insecurity, fostering social connections, and enhancing the health and well-being of older individuals which can be achieved by providing culturally relevant nutrition and nutrition-related services. This approach promotes individual choice and ensures greater accessibility to support these essential aspects of elderly life.
TheProgram Assistantwill be assigned to SHOPP partner site location and is responsible for distributing meals and providing senior social, recreational, cultural, and health promotion activities to participants at selected group sites. TheProgram Assistant reportsdirectly to the Program Director. The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, computer literacy in MicrosoftOffice application anddatabase systems, must hold a valid Food Protection Certificate and a valid CPR Certificate.
Spanish language fluency preferred.
The Program Assistant is a part-time temporary position with a maximum of 10 hours per week. Specific job responsibilities include:
  • Receive, confirm order with delivered goods; inspect quality and quantity, set up for and distribute meals.
  • Ensure safe food handling and follow NYC food safety standards.
  • Maintain communication with site partner personnel to ensure good operations of program goals.
  • Conduct member/participant/client registration and enrollment.
  • Provide Information and Referral to appropriate programs and services (Community and Agency)
  • Conduct educational, recreational and health promotion activities.
  • Track program services and prepare reports.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the workspace at the conclusion of each day, including proper storage of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain program's files and database including NYC Aging database system.
  • Manage calendar for the program.
  • Maintain inventory of program supplies.
  • Maintain agency equipment (computers, copiers, fax, etc. food service equipment) inventory, troubleshoot problems and arrange for service and maintenance on a timely basis as needed.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of volunteers.
  • Participate in SHOPP staff training programs, staff meetings, community meetings and other meetings as assigned.
  • Be available and willing to perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
