Under limited supervision of the Newborn Screening (NBS) Follow up Manager, employee supports the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded BEACONS (Building Evidence and Collaboration for GenOmics in Nationwide Newborn Screening) feasibility study. This position will also serve as a case coordinator for the NBS Program for infants with abnormal screening result for genetic and metabolic disorders. Disorder areas include endocrine, hemoglobin, metabolic, lysosomal, and other disorders as assigned.
* Serves as the primary project coordinator for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded BEACONS feasibility study. Assists the NBS laboratory and follow up program with functions pertaining to the BEACONS study, including writing plans and procedures, following up on abnormal results, and participating in internal and external meetings.
* Provides guidance and technical assistance to physician offices, hospitals, and health department staff regarding newborn screening procedures, with an emphasis on protocols related to endocrine disorders, hemoglobin disorders, inborn errors of metabolism, and other rare disorders as assigned.
* Collaborates with lab, Quality Improvement (QI), Information Technology (IT), and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) staff to develop and implement an electronic patient case management system. Works with all stakeholders on issues related to current and expanded NBS testing. Acquires and maintains competency in new NBS IT system.
* Collaborates with the SC Public Health Laboratory (PHL) and related Bureau of Maternal & Child Health (MCH) staff to develop and implement QI activities and training materials (e.g., training, newsletters, and reports) for the NBS Program.
* Participates in pertinent meetings and trainings, and performs other relevant program duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional RequirementsState Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
