Job description

Open Rank Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics Full-time

Southern Virginia University seeks applications for an Open Rank Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics to begin Fall 2026. This position requires teaching both undergraduate computer science and mathematics courses. Computer Science courses may include data structures, algorithms, software engineering, operating systems, artificial intelligence, databases, web development, mobile app development, and introductory programming in Python. Mathematics courses may include college algebra, trigonometry, calculus, discrete mathematics, and linear algebra.

Responsibilities
  • Teach both computer science and mathematics courses (four total per semester)
  • Develop and refine course material
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Fulfill faculty service assignments
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Computer Science or Mathematics (or related field)
  • The ability to teach undergraduate courses in both computer science and mathematics
  • Strong communicator and a love of teaching
Preferred Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have either a PhD in computer science with a strong mathematics background, or a PhD in Applied Mathematics with extensive industry experience as a software engineer or computational researcher
