Job Description
Old Dominion University ( ODU ) invites applicants for anAssistant/Associate Professor in the area of AI & Network andCommunications Security to begin in Fall 2026 . The positionis in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ( ECE )with a joint appointment with the School of Cybersecurity. This isa tenure-track appointment that is part of a multiple-positionhiring initiative for Trustworthy AI. This cluster hire is part ofODU’s Centennial Cluster Initiative which supports the expansion oftransdisciplinary research efforts by prioritizing the hiring ofmultiple faculty positions targeting specific research areas. TheTrustworthy AI cluster hire involves interdisciplinarycollaboration among School of Cybersecurity, Department ofElectrical and Computer Engineering, Department of ComputerScience, and Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice, andbuilds on existing interdisciplinary strengths at ODU .


We are seeking applicants with expertise at the intersection ofadvanced trustworthy AI techniques and their integration into networks and communications systems. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, AI and computer network security, AI-driven security analysis on networked systems, AI-based threatintelligence, security issues in networked AI-as-a-service systems,security of AI-enabled cyber-physical systems, security of nextgeneration networks such as satellite communication, space systems,and quantum communication, emergent security issues in networkedcyber-physical systems, cyber operations.


Requirements for this position are the potential for success inteaching, research, and obtaining external research grants. Theposition carries a teaching load of 4 courses/year with a reducedcourse load during the first two years. The Assistant/AssociateProfessor will also actively pursue external research grants,supervise Ph.D. students, and participate in interdisciplinaryresearch collaborations with other researchers at ODU .Undergraduate research supervision is highly recommended.
