About this position
The School of Architecture (SoA) at Florida Southern College (FSC) invites applications for a 9-month, Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Architecture position beginning fall 2026. The successful candidate will contribute to building national and international recognition for the school and college and promote a collaborative culture for the mutual benefit of the institution and the internal/external communities it serves.
Florida Southern College is home to the most extensive single-client collection of Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structures and landscapes worldwide. It provides an inspiring and fitting backdrop for the education of future architects. We seek candidates with experience teaching foundational design studios, lectures, and seminar courses at the undergraduate level. The School of Architecture exists to perpetuate Frank Lloyd Wright's vision of a more profound, graceful, thoughtful, and creative society by inspiring new generations to realize their full imaginative potential to become a catalyst for change.
The School of Architecture offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree. This new program was developed in 2024 and launched in August 2025. The curriculum is designed to meet National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), Inc. accreditation requirements and National Council of Architectural Registration Board education guidelines. Work toward initial candidacy and accreditation is ongoing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The incumbent of this position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Architecture and is responsible for promoting the advancement of the mission and vision of Florida Southern College and the School of Architecture. Primary areas of responsibility include teaching, scholarship, and service to the school and college. The successful candidate will be expected to:
  • Teach undergraduate courses in the School of Architecture
  • Advise and mentor students to promote student success
  • Develop and maintain a robust program of scholarly/creative work within the discipline
  • Incorporate scholarly/creative activities into the teaching environment including student- faculty collaborative activities
  • Engage in service to the school, the college, the profession, and the community
  • Participate in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation/assessment, and program improvement
  • Participate in initial and ongoing accreditation processes at the School and College level
  • Participate in faculty governance by serving on program, school, and college committees and within workgroups
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of qualified faculty, staff, and mentor
  • Participate in the recruitment and admission of students
  • Participate in School of Architecture and College activities and celebrations
  • Serve as a liaison and ambassador to engage professional practice and industry partners
  • Support the learning needs and success of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Collaborate within and across departments and schools within the College to promote the vision and goals of the College
  • Contribute to the success of the College and the School of Architecture by performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Architecture

About our ideal candidate
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Possess a terminal degree in architecture (MArch) or DArch/PhD from a regionally accredited (or comparable) institution
  • Possess collaborative skills to work in a team setting
  • Ability to manage tasks and processes including developing and implementing new course content
  • Maintain an active professional U.S. architectural licensure or NCARB Foreign Architect Path to Certificate
  • Demonstrate three years of professional practice in architecture (Individuals with an earned doctorate in architecture or closely related field may receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional experience).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, school, and college levels.
  • Demonstrated Excellent interpersonal, written, graphic, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate three years of successful teaching experience at the university or college level
  • Demonstrate scholarship and creative accomplishments in the field of design
  • Ability to teach advanced design studio, lecture, and seminar courses
  • Skills and experience in the use of digital tools in architectural design and construction
  • Knowledge of, or integration of artificial intelligence in design applications, preferred
