Position description
The UCR School of Medicine invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of Medicine. The incumbent will report to the Vice Chancellor and Dean, UCR School of Medicine, and will be responsible for the overall management of the department including, strategic planning, financial and budgetary planning and accountability, performance improvement, resource allocation, program development, recruitment and development of faculty, and for the management of the educational, clinical and research activities of the Department. This position will also provide leadership and direction in meeting the mission of the School of Medicine.
The Department of Medicine fully aligns with and embraces the SOM mission to train a diverse physician workforce and to deliver clinical and research programs that serve the medically underserved in the Inland Southern California region. Faculty play important roles in the undergraduate medical education program and provide role models and training for students considering the specialty. In addition, the medicine residencies provide additional primary care GME placements in the region, toward the overarching goal of growing the physician workforce. The department provides clinical care at UCR Health and through professional service agreements. The University of California, Riverside provides an environment that is highly conducive to interdisciplinary collaboration across colleges, departments, and centers. The School of Medicine is home to the Center for Healthy Communities (CHC), which serves the needs of Inland Southern
California's culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse communities. Beyond the School of Medicine, there are opportunities to collaborate with other Schools and University of California campuses including the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering; the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; the Graduate School of Education; the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; the School of Business; and the School of Public Policy."
The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in one of the following series: Ladder Rank Professor, Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the full professor rank for the position of Chair of Medicine.
