What is a professional?

Professionals are individuals who possess specialized knowledge, skills, and training in a particular field, often requiring formal education or certification. They are typically held to high standards of competence and ethics, and are committed to continuous learning and development within their profession. Examples of professionals include doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountants, and teachers. Professionals usually adhere to the codes of conduct established by their respective industries or organizations, ensuring quality and trust in their work.

How to get a professional job?

Because most professional jobs require some post-secondary education, you typically need to earn a bachelor’s degree to qualify for these various roles. Depending on the type of vocation you are interested in and the specialization required, qualifications may include an advanced degree, training, and experience in your preferred field. Keep in mind that the general requirements for a professional job don’t always follow suit. For example, a registered nurse is considered a professional career, but you only need to complete a two-year associate degree and gain certification to begin working as one.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional, you generally need expertise in your field, a relevant degree or certification, and a solid track record of achievement. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, software, or regulatory requirements is often necessary for effective performance. Strong communication, ethical judgment, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills that distinguish top professionals. These competencies ensure you can deliver consistent results, adapt to changing demands, and build trust with clients or colleagues.

What types of teams or departments do professionals typically collaborate with, and how can this impact daily responsibilities?

Professionals often work cross-functionally, collaborating with teams such as project management, marketing, finance, or IT, depending on their area of expertise. These interactions can influence daily tasks, requiring flexibility and strong communication skills to align goals and share information effectively. Being comfortable working with diverse teams not only broadens your understanding of the organization but also helps you develop relationships that support your growth and problem-solving abilities. The ability to adapt to different work styles and contribute to team objectives is highly valued in most professional environments.

The main difference between a Professional and a Technician lies in their education, work environment, and job focus. Professionals typically hold higher degrees and engage in strategic or managerial tasks, while Technicians focus on technical, hands-on work requiring specific certifications. Both roles are essential in their respective fields and often work together to achieve organizational goals.

Job description

Position Overview:
Treviso Bay Country Club is seeking an enthusiastic, personable, and experienced Tennis Professional to join our Sports Department for the upcoming season.

This position will initially be seasonal, with the potential to develop into a full-time, year-round position for the right individual.

We are looking for more than simply a tennis instructor. The ideal candidate will be an energetic professional who enjoys being on court, connecting with members, developing programs, and becoming an active part of the club community.

The Tennis Professional will work closely with the Sports Director and other members of the professional staff to provide high-quality private instruction, clinics, mixers, events, and other tennis programming.

To apply, send an email to msimovic@trevisteam.com

Compensation: Hourly, plus lessons and classes commissions

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality private and group tennis instruction for adult players of varying skill levels.
  • Conduct scheduled tennis clinics, drills, mixers, and other instructional programs.
  • Develop strong relationships with members and provide an outstanding member experience.
  • Encourage participation in lessons, clinics, mixers, leagues, and special events.
  • Assist with the organization and execution of club tournaments, exhibitions, member events, and social tennis activities.
  • Help create engaging and enjoyable tennis programming for the membership.
  • Assist with league teams, practices, and organized play when needed.
  • Maintain a professional on-court presence and represent the Sports Department positively.
  • Communicate effectively with members regarding lessons, programs, and scheduling.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sports Director, Sports Services Coordinator, and other teaching professionals.
  • Be willing to assist with pickleball programming when appropriate and based on experience.
  • Assist with other Sports Department programs and events as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Previous tennis teaching or coaching experience required.
  • Strong playing background and solid knowledge of tennis technique, strategy, and player development.
  • Ability to effectively teach players across different ability levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic, outgoing, dependable, and professional.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and ability to build positive relationships with members.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • Availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, tournaments, and special events as programming requires.
  • USPTA or PTR certification preferred.
  • Pickleball teaching or playing experience is a plus but not required.
  • Previous private club or country club experience is a plus.
Growth Opportunity:
While this position will begin as a seasonal Tennis Professional, our goal is to find someone who can grow with our Sports Department.

A successful professional who develops strong member relationships, builds private lessons and clinics, contributes to programming, and demonstrates a commitment to the club may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time, year-round role.

We are looking for someone who sees this not simply as a seasonal coaching position, but as an opportunity to establish themselves within a growing Tennis and Pickleball program.

The Ideal Candidate:
Our ideal candidate loves teaching tennis but also understands that working at a private country club is about much more than what happens on the court.

We are looking for someone who is approachable, enthusiastic, professional, and comfortable engaging with members throughout the club. The right person will take initiative, bring ideas to the department, help grow participation, and become an important part of the Sports team.
