Role Overview

The Technical Writer roleis responsible forresearching, developing, editing, andmaintainingclear,accurate, and user-focused technical documentation and content. These roles are open to qualified candidates who live and work in Canada.


This posting is not for an existing vacancy. We are building a candidate pool in anticipation of an upcoming contract award.

Full-time (40 hrs/week) and part-time hour (20 hrs/week) term positions will be available.


Positions are available in two language streams. Some roles require excellent written and verbal English; others require excellent written and verbal French. Bilingual candidates may apply to both. Where English or French is a requirement, it is because the documentation deliverables for those projects are produced and maintained in English or French. Please indicate which stream you are applying for.


Role Responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit, andmaintainclear,accurate, and user-focused technical guides, user manuals, system documentation, installation guides, configuration guides, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts, developers, engineers, systems specialists, business analysts, and other technical stakeholders to gather andvalidateinformation.
  • Develop documentation for a range of technical and business audiences, including technical users, business users, customers, administrators, and support teams.
  • Review and analyse existing documentation toidentifygaps, inconsistencies, outdated information, duplication, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Applyappropriate informationarchitecture, content structure, terminology, formatting, and style guidelines across documentation.
  • Ensure documentation is written in clear, concise, consistent, andappropriate languagefor the intended audience.
  • Ensure technical documentation follows established organisational branding, formatting, accessibility, quality, and content standards.
  • Ensure documentation reflects current systems, technologies, processes, procedures, and organisational requirements.
  • Support the creation of job aids, quick reference guides, learner materials, and other performance support resources.
  • Use diagrams, screenshots, tables, flowcharts, and other visual elements to improve understanding of complex information whereappropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technical writing practices, documentation technologies, content management tools, and AI-enabled content development tools.
  • Follow established information security, confidentiality, data protection, and document management requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Journalism, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications in Technical Writing, Content Strategy, Professional Writing, Information Design, or a related discipline.
  • Three or more years of demonstrated professional work experience developing high-quality technical documentation for complex systems, processes, products, or technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English or French, corresponding to the role stream you apply for.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex technical information and communicate it clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience working directly with technical subject matter experts, developers, engineers, systems specialists, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, content structure, document design, and technical communication principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Experience developing accessible documentation in line with WCAG, Section 508, or other accessibility standards is desirable.
  • Excellent skills with document and content development tools
  • Experience with AI-assisted writing, documentation, research, or content development tools is desirable.
  • The ability to pass and maintain a security screening.

Les postes sont offerts dans deux volets linguistiques. Responsabilites du poste

  • Rechercher, rediger, reviser et tenir a jour des guides techniques, des manuels d'utilisation, de la documentation de systemes, des guides d'installation, des guides de configuration, de la documentation de processus et des procedures normalisees d'exploitation clairs, exacts et axes sur l'utilisateur.
  • Travailler en etroite collaboration avec des experts en la matiere, des developpeurs, des ingenieurs, des specialistes des systemes, des analystes d'affaires et d'autres parties prenantes techniques afin de recueillir et de valider l'information.
  • Elaborer de la documentation destinee a divers publics techniques et d'affaires, y compris les utilisateurs techniques, les utilisateurs d'affaires, les clients, les administrateurs et les equipes de soutien.
  • Examiner et analyser la documentation existante afin de relever les lacunes, les incoherences, l'information desuete, les redondances et les occasions d'amelioration.
  • Appliquer a l'ensemble de la documentation une architecture de l'information, une structure de contenu, une terminologie, une mise en forme et des regles de style appropriees.
  • Veiller a ce que la documentation soit redigee dans une langue claire, concise, coherente et adaptee au public vise.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureat ou experience equivalente en redaction technique, en communications, en anglais, en journalisme, en technologies de l'information, en informatique, en administration ou dans une discipline connexe.
  • Certifications en redaction technique, en strategie de contenu, en redaction professionnelle, en design de l'information ou dans une discipline connexe.
  • Au moins trois annees d'experience professionnelle demontree dans l'elaboration de documentation technique de haute qualite portant sur des systemes, des processus, des produits ou des technologies complexes.
  • Excellentes competences a l'ecrit et a l'oral en anglais ou en francais, selon le volet auquel vous postulez.
  • Capacite demontree a comprendre de l'information technique complexe et a la communiquer clairement a differents publics.
  • Experience de travail directe avec des experts en la matiere, des developpeurs, des ingenieurs, des specialistes des systemes et des parties prenantes d'affaires. Bonne comprehension de l'architecture de l'information, de la structure de contenu, du design documentaire et des principes de la communication technique.
