SUMMARY
The Welding Instructor delivers high-quality classroom, lab, and shop-based instruction in welding and related fabrication processes. The position prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing by building technical competence, safe work habits, professionalism, and workplace readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional welding experience; or an associate degree and six years of professional welding experience; or other qualifications as may be permitted under applicable Faculty Association contract provisions and College requirements.
AWS (American Welding Society) certification.
Proficiency in multiple welding processes, including SMAW (stick), GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW.
Demonstrated knowledge of welding safety standards, OSHA expectations, shop safety practices, and proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
Ability to teach both theoretical concepts and hands-on technical skills effectively.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and student-support skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience in a college, technical school, workforce development, apprenticeship, or industry training setting.
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential.
Experience with CNC cutting, robotics, automated welding systems, or other advanced manufacturing technologies.
Familiarity with competency-based education, workforce credentialing, industry-recognized certifications, or career pathway programming.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of welding processes, fabrication techniques, blueprint reading, welding symbols, and related manufacturing practices.
Ability to program, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment used in a modern welding and advanced manufacturing lab or shop environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver instruction in welding and fabrication processes, including SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, blueprint reading, welding symbols, fabrication techniques, and related manufacturing concepts.
Provide hands-on training in a lab or shop environment while ensuring proper operation and care of tools, machines, equipment, materials, and instructional spaces.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, industry safety standards, College safety procedures, and appropriate personal protective equipment requirements.
Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum, lesson plans, lab exercises, assessments, and instructional materials aligned with program goals and workforce needs.
Evaluate student progress through practical skills assessments, projects, written assignments, exams, demonstrations, and other appropriate measures.
Maintain accurate instructional records, attendance records, grading documentation, equipment-use records, and other program documentation as required.
Support student success by providing timely feedback, academic guidance, workplace-readiness coaching, and referrals to appropriate College resources when needed.
Collaborate with local industry partners to keep training aligned with current and emerging workforce demands, equipment, technologies, and credentialing expectations.
Participate in program planning, assessment, continuous improvement, advisory activities, recruitment or outreach events, and other College or departmental initiatives as assigned.
Responsibilities may include conducting scheduled office hours for student conferences and academic advisement as well as assigned committee work.
Work Environment
Combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training in a welding lab, shop, or advanced manufacturing environment.
Exposure to typical welding and fabrication environment conditions, including heat, noise, fumes, sparks, moving equipment, and other shop hazards, with appropriate safety measures in place.
May require evening, weekend, or adjusted teaching assignments depending on program and student needs.
