Job description

TEST - 1" Plate Test
Dual Wire Submerged Arc (Subarc or SAW) Welder operates heavy-duty mechanized welding equipment to fuse thick metal plates. They set up parameters to feed two consumable wires simultaneously into a single molten weld puddle beneath a blanket of granular flux. This role requires precision machine calibration for deep penetration and high deposition rates
Core Responsibilities
  • Equipment Setup: Thread continuous twin wires through feed rolls, set electrode angles, and calibrate variables (current, voltage, travel speed) per Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Flux Management: Fill and direct hoppers to gravity-feed granular flux over the weld line, protecting the weld from atmospheric contamination.
  • Operation & Monitoring: Monitor machines and adjust parameters in real-time to maintain synchronization between the wire feed and travel speed.
  • Quality Control: Visually inspect welds and the surrounding metal for defects, and ensure adherence to project blueprints.
  • Post-Weld Processing: Remove surplus fused slag, flux, and spatter using brushes, portable grinders, or power chippers between passes.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 2–5 years of experience operating automatic or semi-automatic submerged arc welding machinery in heavy manufacturing, shipbuilding, or pressure vessel fabrication.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read/interpret technical drawings and setup operating charts.
  • Certifications: Certified Welder (CW) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is strongly preferred.
  • Physical & Safety Requirements: Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and navigate around large, heavy structural fabrications.
