Job description

Position Summary

The Business Development Professional is responsible for driving growth and establishing new customer relationships in the Southern Midwest fresh produce market. This role identifies opportunities, develops sales strategies, and manages the sales process from initial contact to closing. The position collaborates with internal teams to ensure successful onboarding, account management, and customer satisfaction while expanding the company's presence in the region.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Develop and execute a sales strategy to acquire new customers, including grocery stores, wholesalers, and distributors
  • Identify, research, and secure new business opportunities in the Southern Midwest market
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers at prospective accounts
  • Lead the sales process from initial outreach to closing deals
  • Collaborate with marketing, operations, and finance teams to ensure seamless onboarding and account management
  • Attend trade shows, industry events, and conferences to identify opportunities and network
  • Monitor market trends and provide insights to support strategic planning
  • Track sales activity and provide accurate reporting on pipeline and results

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in business development or sales, ideally in fresh produce or related industries
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth
  • Deep understanding of the Southern Midwest produce market, including key players and industry trends
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter with a growth mindset
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Existing network and relationships within the Southern Midwest produce market
  • Experience launching new business initiatives or regional expansions
