Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Professional Liability Underwriter with 5+ years of experience. Position based ideally in either New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco or Atlanta. This role is open to candidates at the Sr. Underwriter or AVP level.

We are seeking an individual who is hard working, intellectually curious, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence. Candidate must have the ability to work both independently and to collaborate with all levels and disciplines.

Day to day responsibilities include expanding and developing new business opportunities through production and marketing calls with brokers and clients, prequalifying new business and utilizing underwriting acumen to identify and select sound construction professional risks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow the Construction Professional book of business which includes primary and excess, practice and project specific Contractors Professional and Protective Liability (CPPI) policy.
  • Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships nationwide.
  • Work closely with underwriting, loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
  • Maintain a profitable renewal book.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years marketing facing underwriting experience ideally in design (A&E), construction professional, or environmental underwriting experience.
  • Strong underwriting acumen.
  • Existing regional wholesale and retail broker relationships and/or proven ability to develop same
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills including advanced negotiation, communications and presentation experience.
  • BS/BA Degree or equivalent experience.

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 to $180,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
