Position Announcement
The Elementary Education Clinical Teaching Resident is a UVU Elementary Education first or second-semester student embedded at Trailside Elementary as part of a year-long pilot partnership between the UVU School of Education and Trailside Elementary School. Residents serve a dual role: as a working member of a grade-level Professional Learning Community (PLC) and classroom aide, and as a direct communication bridge between Trailside and the UVU SOE Elementary Education Department.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Participate as an active member of assigned grade-level PLCs, attending collaborative planning meetings and contributing to discussions on student learning, data, and instructional strategies
- Support classroom teachers in implementing targeted intervention and enrichment activities for individual student needs.
- Serve as an academic aide in K-6 classrooms, supporting small-group instruction, individual student support, and classroom routines.
- Contribute to a monthly report to the UVU Elementary Education Department covering successes, challenges, current classroom curriculum, and recommendations.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Current enrollment as a UVU Elementary Education student in good standing.
- Availability for approximately 20 hours per week on-site at Trailside Elementary, consistent with the pilot's weekly schedule, for the full academic year (August 2026-May 2027).
- Clearance of required background check(s) per district and university policy.
- Reliable transportation to Trailside Elementary. Strong communication and collaboration skills, given the liaison responsibilities of the role.
Preferred Qualification
- Prior experience working with elementary-age students (tutoring, paraeducator work, camps, etc.).
- Demonstrated reliability, initiative, and comfort working as part of a school-based team (PLC).
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Working knowledge of elementary-level curriculum, child development, and effective instructional practices.
- Familiarity with Professional Learning Community (PLC) structures and collaborative planning processes.
- General understanding of FERPA and school-based confidentiality expectations regarding student information.
- Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, to serve effectively as a liaison between Trailside staff and UVU faculty.
- Skill in managing time and competing priorities across a consistent weekly on-site schedule and academic coursework.
- Skill in accurately observing, documenting, and summarizing classroom curriculum and instructional practice for monthly reporting.
- Basic proficiency with common classroom and productivity technology (e.g., learning management systems, document/reporting tools).
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a PLC, including contributing constructively to team discussions on student data and instructional strategy.
- Ability to support small-group and individual student instruction under the direction of a classroom teacher.
- Ability to adapt and exercise sound judgment when navigating classroom dynamics, scheduling changes, or role ambiguity.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries regarding student and school information.
- Ability to work effectively and sensitively with a diverse K-6 student population.
