Job description

Primary Function: 
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Development Professional plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, such as but not limited to Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and physical education for youth ages 6-18. Youth Development Professionals may also run the Front Desk or the Canteen for snack/meals and are frequently in communication with parents, Club members, and staff alike. 
 
Key Roles:  
  1. Promote and stimulate program participation 
  2. Provide guidance and role modeling to members 
  3. Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members 
  4. Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members that respond to their needs and address their gender and cultural diversity 
  5. Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety, quality in programs, and appearance of clubhouse at all times 
  6. Ensure productive and effective work environment 
  7. Monitor program areas to ensure member safety 
  8. Oversee the Front Counter area for member check-in and check-out as needed 
  9. Operate the Canteen during snack or mealtime as needed, ensuring the Canteen is kept clean and proper food handling methods are utilized 
  10. Communicate effectively with parents/guardians and families as needed 
  11. Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation figures, notable achievements, and any problems/incidents 
  12. Complete closing tasks as needed, including various cleaning tasks 
  13. Attend all staff meetings and trainings 
  14. May participate in special programs or events 
In addition to the specific professional job duties, must also possess the ability to: 
  • Be passionate about working with kids! 
  • Exercise excellent customer service and communication skills 
  • Effectively use Microsoft Word, Outlook mail, and Outlook calendar 
  • Work effectively with volunteers, parents, school officials and other community members 
  • Represent the Club positively in the community 
  • Continue personal and professional growth by participating in trainings/classes 
  • Prioritize assignments 
  • Ability to work independently and monitor own performance objectives 
  • Be a team player 
Skills/Knowledge Required: 
  • High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Effectively use Microsoft Office 
  • Work effectively with volunteers, parents, school officials and other community members 
  • Represent the Club positively in the community 
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds 
  • Must be able to stand for at least two hours consecutively 
  • Ability to pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance
