Job description

CONTINUING EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR - (PART-TIME)
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE
Olive-Harvey College is currently seeking part-time Continuing Education Instructors. If you have passion for teaching and learning, and are committed to the mission of the community college, consider joining our team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students' diverse needs and engage the student in critical thinking and problem-solving. Continuing Education courses are short, focused courses offered for personal growth and professional development. We are currently seeking instructors to teach non-credit, adult enrichment courses on various topics including Art, Music, Travel, Computers, Real Estate, Finance and Investment, Fitness and more. Most courses for adults meet once a week for three hours on a weekday evening or Saturday morning for 1 - 8 weeks. No academic credit is awarded.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Instruct/facilitate courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students' active participation in their own learning
    • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies
    • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student's academic and professional communities, and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities
    • Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
    • Degree/certifications may be required dependent on course offering
    • Teaching experience not required; industry experience valued
    • Knowledge of Brightspace, preferred but not required
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required
    • Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college
    • Must be able to spend majority the of time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions if necessary.
