Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Media, Communications, HCI, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in UX writing, content design, technical writing, writing, editorial, marketing, or related, as well as leading content strategy projects.
  • 8 years of leadership experience managing managers and leading global or multidisciplinary content and conversation design teams.
  • 5 years of experience partnering directly with C-level or VP-level executive leadership.

Preferred qualifications:
  • 15 years of experience within an agency or hyper-growth technology setting.
  • 10 years of experience navigating and driving measurable impact within a complex, highly matrixed, global technology corporation.
  • Experience defining ideal model and agentive AI experiences, and translating those ideals into concrete product direction and improvements.
  • Experience pioneering and scaling multimodal user experiences across a product ecosystem.

About the job
As the Principal of UX Writing, Content, and Conversation Design for Geo, you will drive product vision at scale by defining overarching content strategies, mitigating systemic complexity, and conceptualizing ecosystem-level UX. You are a visionary executive leader, a systems-level thinker, and a fierce advocate for both our global users and your organization.
In this role, you will lead a global team spanning Sydney, Tokyo, New York, Tel Aviv, Seattle, Mountain View, and San Francisco. This multidisciplinary organization's purview includes UX Writing, Content Design, and Conversation Design. You will manage a core leadership team and oversee an expanded global organization, guiding their professional growth, fostering a culture of operational excellence, and aligning organizational priorities with Geo's broader business strategy.
This is a rare opportunity to lead at the intersection of language, design, agentive AI, and geospatial experiences.
The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.
The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $275000 - $383000 (USD) 30% bonus target bonus equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Define near- and long-term UX Writing, Content, and Conversation Design directions, driving organization-level strategy and key decisions to achieve complex OKRs.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, UX researchers, data scientists, and marketers to define and execute.
  • Drive the adoption of AI and emergent technologies to innovate design methodologies for complex, systemic product and business problems.
  • Lead and inspire a global team, managing organizational risk, fostering a culture of high-quality craft, and developing career paths for direct and indirect reports.
