Job description

About Medicom
Medicom is a leading enterprise imaging software company that solves longstanding interoperability challenges for clinicians, staff, patients, and researchers. Its core platform, Connect, supports diverse enterprise imaging interoperability use cases. These include access to prior and unread imaging studies, point-of-care workflows, patient access to images, orders and results workflows for teleradiology, telestroke and trauma, and cross-institution sharing of digital imaging. Medicom's Network is adopted by over 1,000 US healthcare institutions and backed by leading venture capital firms, such as UPMC Enterprises. Data and insights from the Medicom Connect network drive Medicom's Intellect offering, which helps clinicians and researchers advance patient care and develop new therapies.
About the role
Are you excited by the idea of helping define how AI transforms software engineering?
Medicom is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building high-quality software and exploring how AI can accelerate development, improve code quality, and enhance the engineering experience. You'll join a collaborative team that values continuous delivery, technical excellence, and experimentation with emerging technologies.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, embraces modern engineering practices, and is eager to help shape how AI becomes part of our everyday development workflow.
What you'll do
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable software solutions for medical imaging workflows.
  • Evaluate, experiment with, and champion AI-powered development tools and workflows that improve engineering productivity and software quality.
  • Identify opportunities to responsibly integrate AI into the software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, documentation, debugging, and developer workflows.
  • Partner with the engineering team to establish best practices for effective and secure use of AI-assisted development.
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to define, implement, and refine new features and system improvements.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in clinical environments by troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing application performance.
  • Contribute to the efficiency of development pipelines by supporting continuous integration, testing, and deployment efforts.
  • Engage in collaborative programming practices such as pair programming, participate in knowledge-sharing activities like brown-bag discussions, and attend daily stand-ups to align on project goals.
  • Provide remote development support to customers when needed in collaboration with customer support specialists.
  • Take advantage of Medicom's self-paced learning resources to continually develop technical skills, deepen product knowledge, and stay current with industry advancements.

Required Qualifications
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • Demonstrated passion for applying AI to software engineering, including hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and a curiosity for evaluating emerging technologies that improve engineering productivity, code quality, and developer experience.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Quicksight Experience or metrics reporting experience
  • Front-end development experience, especially with Vue (or another reactive framework), AWS Amplify, and micro-frontends. Not required, but a willingness to contribute to front-end work is expected of all engineers on the team.
  • Experience or knowledge of healthcare standards (e.g., DICOM, HL7, FHIR, SMART on FHIR) and medical imaging software.
  • Experience with serverless/event-driven architecture.
  • Familiarity with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience in Test Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience with NoSQL and SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Preference for collaborative programming practices such as pair programming.
