Job description

The Systems Technician III is responsible for advanced production support in a manufacturing environment, including system assembly, configuration, burn-in, test, troubleshooting, and documentation for variety of computer systems such as server, desktop, nucs, rack, edge connectors, and other compute products as appropriate. This role provides hands-on technical support to production, performs timely investigation and closure of nonconformities, supports root cause analysis, performs and participates in CAPA efforts as needed, helps maintain production flow, product quality, and performance to schedule.

General Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Equus core values by leading through example and acting in a manner consistent with those values
  • Maintain a positive, flexible, respectful, and professional approach in a fast-paced production environment
  • Work constructively with team members and cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, and other internal departments as appropriate
  • Follow Equus safety and quality policies, procedures, and work instructions always
  • Understand production goals and support the team in meeting schedule commitments

Assembly, Configuration, and Test

  • Verify work orders to determine system type, configuration, and required components prior to assembly and test
  • Perform manual system configuration activities, including BIOS, IPMI, controller firmware, DMI stamping, and other utilities as required
  • Configure and validate RAID solutions, including RAID 1, 5, 6, and 10 using onboard and add-in RAID controllers, including hot spare configuration
  • Create and verify Windows software RAID and Linux RAID configurations as required
  • Perform burn-in, testing, HiPot, inspection, and validation of products according to established procedures and work instructions
  • Load operating systems, images, firmware, drivers, and customer-required utilities as required
  • Assemble and disassemble systems as required

Troubleshooting and Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot assembly, configuration, and test issues independently and escalate issues when needed
  • Assist in the investigation, closure, and root cause of nonconformances
  • Communicate issues clearly and promptly to the Production Supervisor, Engineering, or other appropriate support teams
  • Work with various departments as needed to troubleshoot technical issues and support resolving the issues
  • Support new product testing, engineering evaluations, and pilot activities as needed

Documentation and Quality

  • Maintain a clear understanding and proper application of Configuration Sheets, build documents, testing procedures, and related production records
  • Identify discrepancies in work instructions, build documentation, configuration sheets, and controlled documents and request updates through the appropriate channels
  • Ensure all required production documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner through training and sampling
  • Support workmanship standards, quality, and process compliance by identifying problems, documenting issues, and following containment or escalation procedures as needed

Training, Coordination, and Continuous Improvement

  • Train and support new employees in Equus processes, procedures, workmanship standards, and safety expectations
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance to production staff as needed
  • Support the Production Supervisor in improving assembly and testing processes
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, accuracy, and flow within the production process
  • Help the team achieve production goals through technical support, ownership, urgency, and consistent execution

Essential Education, Skills, and Experience

  • High school graduate and/or a 2-year certificate from a college or technical school; or minimum of three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Worked as a Server Technician II for a minimum of three (3) years and/or combination of knowledge and related work experience
  • Experience and clear understanding and application of Linux and Windows including hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor/manager and co-workers
  • Ability to add and subtract in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment and support crossfunctional initiatives
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, work instructions, and configuration sheets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with supervisors, managers, coworkers
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset
  • Handson experience creating Windows RAID types using onboard or addon RAID controllers, including configuration of hot spares, as well as RAID for Linux systems
  • Ability to install and configure operating systems, drivers, RAID software, and required utilities (e.g., BitPro)
  • Familiarity with Windows updates, activation, and license keys
  • Experience installing and configuring various software tools (e.g. TeamViewer, Super Doctor, remote monitoring agents
  • Experience performing advanced BIOS and IPMI configurations, including firmware updates and custom profiles as well as working knowledge of OOB keys, and log management

The base pay range for this role is between $26/hour and $34/hour and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location, along with budgeted range of position.
