Job description

Position Summary: Directs the manufacturing and packaging functions for high-quality products and to achieve the business drivers of cost, quality, customer service, compliance and safety. Structures assigned organization and staff positions with personnel to accomplish business objectives . Develops and recommends company manufacturing policy, establishes manufacturing operating policy and directs and supervises the application of such policies to the manufacturing operations. Supervises installation and maintenance of all processing equipment used in manufacturing. Coordinates the planning and execution of manufacturing schedules based on sales requirements and plant capacity . Directs preparation of cost control reports, cost estimates and manpower and facilities requirement forecasts. Controls cost of production, warehousing, receiving and shipping of raw materials through appropriate subordinates . Ensures prompt and economical receipt of needed materials and supplies, and delivery of finished products to customers. Directs the preparation of specifications for purchase as to quality, quantity, delivery, and service required for purchase of plant equipment, supplies, and materials to meet production schedules. Establishes and maintains inventory controls and levels to conform to budgets and forecasts. Ensures good workplace organization along with focus on mass balance and high yield. High accountability for waste management. Champions change and implements continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and Six Sigma (Operational Excellence) initiatives to generate cost savings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Provides leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development.
  • Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate fast improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Manages material requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand.
  • Ensures compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, OSHA, safety, and complete and on-time delivery at the lowest possible cost.
  • Balances work cell capacity/loading across the plant.
  • Determines operations headcount needs and ensures compliance with company policies.
  • Identifies, communicates, and drives implementation of capital investments and improvement projects.
  • Manages compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Manages policy deployment in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and plant performance measures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Experience and Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years of experience preferred.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong business acumen skills.
  • Knowledge in a variety of mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Knowledge of location and proper use of maintenance/facilities, tooling, supplies and equipment.
  • Able to read and interpret schematics and blueprints.
  • Comfortable operating heavy equipment and power tools.
  • Mastery of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions).
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Champion safety requirements.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs or more.
  • Frequently required to handle; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, as well as reach with hands and arms for extended periods of time to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to and reviews the work of assigned staff.
  • Directly supervises individual contributors in technical positions and/or entry level professionals.
  • Execute performance management as necessary.
  • Schedule work as needed.
  • Recommends candidates for employment and makes recommendations for termination.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff.
  • Responsible for the application of company policies.
