Job description

Job Summary
Assists in managing plant operations and overseeing production processes to ensure efficiency and quality standards are met. Supervises plant employees, assigns tasks, and monitors performance to achieve production goals. Assists in implementing and enforcing safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Collaborates with managers and other departments to optimize plant operations and resolve any issues that may arise. Supports the Plant Manager in day-to-day activities and decision-making processes.
Essential Functions
Assists the Plant Manager in the overall operation of the plant, including production, and maintenance.
Coordinate by-size production with sales market demands and long range planning.
Work closely with the quality control technician and the plant manager to ensure that all production meets the customer's needs.
Proper utilization and maintenance of all stationary and mobile support equipment so that equipment cost and downtime is minimized and the equipment is available when needed.
Be proactive in the safety of all personnel and activities in the plant area. Inspect and maintain dust control systems to ensure a healthy work environment. Be knowledgeable of waste products, their impact on the environment and their proper disposal.
Ensure that all safety procedures and company guidelines are adhered to.
Provide an example of good leadership. Keep open effective lines of communication with division staff and operation level personnel.
Maintain proper levels of inventories to support local sales activities and long range market demands.
Coordinates with contractors and vendors to ensure that construction projects are completed on time and within budget.
Works closely with Quality Control Technician to ensure product consistency.
Ensure that Vulcan remains proactive and transparent with community partners and our Adopt-a-School programs thrive.
Thorough understanding of Vulcan's business purpose. Recognizes business constraints - what is and is not possible at certain times or in certain positions.

High School or GED required.
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field experience preferred.
Experience
Minimum requirements for this position are five years of crushing and screening plant operation and maintenance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in supervising production employees, preferably at either an aggregate, sand/gravel, or asphalt plant is preferred.
Must be able to provide strong leadership and guidance to employees, both direct and indirect reports. Must be able to motivate and maintain interpersonal relationships.
Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete, and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes.
Must be an excellent motivator and team builder. Must be able to form strong relationships and effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences.
Must possess knowledge and experience leading financial performance to established targets.
Good organization skills; excellent problem solving skills and practices.
Flexible to work long hours and travel if needed.
Knowledge of drilling and blasting.
Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations (MSHA and OSHA).
Must represent Vulcan in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and employees.
Other Requirements
Works proficient and independent.
Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Ability to work in a stressful, deadline oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making. Must be able to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Work environment will be both indoors in an office and outside in the quarry or plant. In the office employee will occasionally be required to sit at a desk or operator's station. In the outside setting employee will perform activities at various heights, around moving machinery, be exposed to dust, fumes and gases; may be required to use hand tools or power tools. Outside setting will expose employee to changes in temperature/humidity and will require walking on uneven surfaces. May be required to climb steps, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, crawl or reach above shoulders to accomplish functions of job.
